I would sincerely hope the answer to all of that is yes! The solution is a fairly easy one as well–just have family meals together! Just look at this information from The Family Dinner Project:
Over the past 15 years, research has shown what parents have known for a long time: Sharing a fun family meal is good for the spirit, brain and health of all family members. Recent studies link regular family meals with the kinds of behaviors that parents want for their children: higher grade-point averages, resilience and self-esteem. Additionally, family meals are linked to lower rates of substance abuse, teen pregnancy, eating disorders and depression. We also believe in the power of family dinners to nourish ethical thinking.
It is so very, very important to take the time to re-connect as a family each day–whether that be breakfast, lunch, dinner–or all three meals! Eating together is a beautiful ritual that will bring your family together in a rich and powerful way.
Since I’m blessed to stay at home with my kiddos we’re able to eat all three meals together. Breakfast gives us the chance to start the day off right. I’m able to discuss the days plans with Amber and the kids favorite meal is breakfast, so they always have a good time with it. I make sure that for all 3 meals everyone is totally “unplugged” No phones, laptops, toys, or TV during meal time! This helps us to focus on the food (which helps me to eat less of it!) and focus on each other!
Even with my busy crazy schedule family sit down meals are the one non-negotiable item on my plate. I drop whatever it is I’m doing at 4 p.m. each day and spend the next hour cooking us up a tasty, sit down, home cooked family meal. When Bob’s home he’ll sometime come join me in the kitchen and we have so much fun cooking and talking and trying new recipes together!
Of course, dining together is even more fun when you have delicious options, and we’re all fans of Orange Juice! (actually…..is there anyone who *doesn’t* like orange juice…that’s a good question–I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t!!) Tropicana is a big favorite around here–in fact we have a jug of it in our fridge right now! It’s 100% Pure Florida Orange Juice, which is why it’s so tasty! Another reason might be that the two major orange types in Tropicana Pure Premium are Valencia and Hamlin. Valencias typically have more intense color and flavor, while Hamlins can be sweeter. They each add unique characteristics to the TPP blend. Who knew? I always just thought an orange was an orange!
