I was blessed in that I spent virtually all my life growing up in church. Sunday morning, sunday night, church camp, youth group–you name it, I was there! And while this was a huge blessing for me, it also is super easy to fall into a rut when you’re spoon fed “the right answers” your whole life. It’s easy to see church as a chore and Christianity as one big long list of what you can do and what you can’t do. So when I heard about Ryan & Josh Shook and their book Firsthand: Ditching Secondhand Religion for a Faith of Your Own I was eager to read it because I was sure I’d be able to relate!
If you hadn’t picked up on it by now, I’m a teensy bit picky when it comes to my kids entertainment! I have raised more than one eyebrow at my Mom-in-Law and hubby for what I’ve walked into on the TV–simply because it wasn’t educational enough or for some other minor reason!
I’m always on the lookout for great shows that I can feel confident about my kids watching, so when I heard that Superbook was back and better than ever I knew we’d be checking it out. I love shows that take Biblical stories and make them fun and relevant for kids. I was super happy to see that even though they are originally from the Christian Broadcast Network they’ll actually be airing on ABC Family this Summer! Here is the listing in case you’d like to check them out!
ABC Family Airings – 9:30 a.m. EDT:
July 1st – In the Beginning: Adam and Eve
July 2nd – Let My People Go: Moses
July 3rd – The First Christmas
July 4th – He Is Risen: the Resurrection of Jesus
July 5th – Revelation
Watch for my review of the series coming soon and in the meantime you can also check out the Superbook Website for more information!
Growing up I went to Red Cliff Bible Camp (north of Pinedale, Wyoming) nearly every single summer. Although I loved going there for the weekly youth camps my favorite was always going to Family Camp over the 4th of July each summer. The people, the views, the food, the services–they’re all amazing! Growing up a big focus was always on what outfits I would wear for the teen camps–so affordable fashi0n was a must!
So I am *super* excited about the 4th of July this year because I will, once again, get to spend it up at Red Cliff! I’m flying up to spend a few weeks in my beloved Wyoming with my family and to kick it off we’re headed up to camp in the wild wilderness–much to me and the kids delight!
Naturally to celebrate the occasion I needed a special outfit! So I headed over to Sears to find the perfect one and take advantage of their Shop Your Way program.
Have you re-pinned my main Organizing in Small Spacespost yet? If not go ahead and do that now–no really. I’ll wait. Each week I do a post I go back in and link to it in that post–so if you pin it you’ll have all my posts in one easy location! If you’re not following me already on Pinterest be sure to do that while you’re there too!
As you know my hubby and I love watching movies and shows together! Because of this we have a decent sized movie collection. During our many moves with the Coast Guard we decided that we needed an easy way to organize our DVDs and take them with us each move. (sadly we heard many horror stories about stolen DVDs when packers were responsible for them!) We came up with a solution that worked so well we never moved away from it even when we weren’t in transit. I love how uncluttered and portable our collection is now! Want to know our secret? When you see it you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it all along!
If I seem to have gifts on the brain it’s probably because I do. You see, in our family July is THE month for birthdays. Hubby, Tyler, my sister, my niece, my grandma, me, and my soon-to-arrive nephew, and my childhood bestie are all July babies! So next to Christmas it’s the go-to month that I need gifts for and since I like to be ahead of the game that means that by the end of June I’m trying to wrap up my gift purchases!
I like to be known for getting amazing gifts but inevitably there are those one or two people on your list that are just ridiculous to try and buy for. You know the type! The ones with the expensive tastes who usually have one of everything already because they buy it for themselves as soon as it comes out? Yeah–those ones!
It seems like there has been a rash of hard times and bad news popping up lately. It’s terrible when you hear wrenching news that you can do absolutely nothing about. The kind of news where you just don’t know if there is anything that you can do or say that could possibly help the situation and not just make it worse.
I like to think, however, that there is always something you can do–even if it’s just some very small act of kindness to let someone know that they are not alone. So lately when I’ve been hearing these things that make my heart sad I’ve been trying to reach out in love with a “Thinking of You” Gift!
One of me and hubbies favorite things to do together is cuddle up and watch a good movie! I’ve been wanting to see Jack the Giant Slayer ever since I saw the previews but haven’t gotten the chance to yet. I’m excited it was just released to DVD on June 18th so now I can finally get to see it! In case you’re like me and missed it until now, or if you loved it and would like to re-watch it, I thought I’d share this giveaway and fun app so you get the chance to watch it too!
Let me know if you’ve watched the movie and if you liked it in the comments!
It’s Friday! In case you haven’t noticed lately I’ve been trying to bring you some of my favorite recipes or food on Fridays–because I love food and I’m fairly certain you do too!
In addition to be Friday it’s also the official beginning to summer, which means you probably have a house full of kiddos around now to entertain. If your kids are anything like mine less structure means more pestering–and that includes the “Mom I’m soooooo hungry” chant that comes oh-too-often.
Have you noticed that classic toys are making a huge comeback? Every time I turn around it seems that characters that I loved growing up like the Bernstain Bearsare popping up with new toys and spin offs.
Personally I absolutely love it! It’s so fun to become reacquainted with “old friends” as an adult and seeing my kids fall in love with them. This special and unique connection can be encouraged and developed, so I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on how to help it flourish!
How Much: Free! My favorite! (Small admission to the Rose Garden Museum–to be featured in another post)
I have always been a roses girl! They are my favorite gift and I adore all varieties from long stemmed beauties to sweet smelling wild roses! We had a huge yellow rose bush along side of my house growing up–somehow it thrived even in Wyoming, perhaps that’s where my love of roses began! You’ve already seen in The Azalea Trail that Tyler is famous for it’s flowers, but did you know it’s most famous for it’s roses?!
