Growing up I went to Red Cliff Bible Camp (north of Pinedale, Wyoming) nearly every single summer. Although I loved going there for the weekly youth camps my favorite was always going to Family Camp over the 4th of July each summer. The people, the views, the food, the services–they’re all amazing! Growing up a big focus was always on what outfits I would wear for the teen camps–so affordable fashi0n was a must!
So I am *super* excited about the 4th of July this year because I will, once again, get to spend it up at Red Cliff! I’m flying up to spend a few weeks in my beloved Wyoming with my family and to kick it off we’re headed up to camp in the wild wilderness–much to me and the kids delight!
Naturally to celebrate the occasion I needed a special outfit! So I headed over to Sears to find the perfect one and take advantage of their Shop Your Way program.
Finding the right 4th of July look for Red Cliff is a difficult balance. It’s a conservative Christian camp (think–no shorts or plunging necklines) and it’s nice to wear a skirt to the services. But you also have to take into consideration that you are in the middle of a vast wilderness, living out of a camp trailer. So very fancy skirts or dresses don’t fit what is called for in terms of fashion or practicality. Since it’s up in the mountains it’s warm to hot during the day and brrr chilly in the evenings and night. Even with all this very specific criteria I was confident that I would be able to pull together an outfit that was affordable, modest, modern, fashionable, and fit the festive mood of the 4th of July!

Ta Da! This is what I came up with! To me it hit all the things I was looking for, and then some!
Because of that hot to cold dynamic I knew that layering was going to be a must. Denim is usually a super popular choice for camp (and, well, let’s be honest–Wyoming in general) but I wanted to steer clear of the obvious denim skirt. The perfect alternative came in the form of this darling Chambray Shirt which is absolutely perfect for the layering I need!
Since it’s a shirt it’s incredibly light weight and also much more figure flattering than a typical jean jacket is! I love the perfectly place stitching that brings it up a notch and adds a va-va-voom factor without being over the top about it.
There are so many little details that help really bring my look together and polish it off–the pearl buttons on the Chambray shirt perfectly off set the white background of my fun sundress and the sparkle of my “firework” earrings that I picked up at Sears last year. (Can you believe I got my Chambray shirt on sale for $17.99? Then using my $4 Shop Your Way rewards it ended up being $11.99 for my entire purchase–huge score!)
Top if off with my Sears fashion boots that I picked up at the end of the winter season this year (stylish and practical–can you imagine walking on dirt and gravel in strappy heels? Nightmare!) and you have my 4th of July look!
What are your 4th of July plans? What are you going to wear? Leave me a comment and let me know!
