Why Our Family Loves Netflix this Summer
I have to admit, we were a little late hopping onto the Netflix wagon-now, not too late, but it seems like some of my friends and my in-laws had used it for a few years before we began to. Through their assurances of how awesome it was, combined with the fact that our new apartment in Boston was 3 stories up, I had 2 kiddos I was often alone with, and we would have had to driven to Timbuktu to rent, Netflix became a staple in our life and has never left! Our family definitely loves Netflix–and it’s come in handy more than ever this summer!
Through the years Bob and I have really enjoyed having such a huge variety of shows at our fingertips and have gotten hooked on ones like Top Gear from BBC that we probably would have never discovered otherwise. We also love that Netflix is great at getting popular movies up to watch instantly without too much of a delay, a family favorite that hubby recently re-watched while he was away working for the summer is Thor. It’s great that he has access to a ton of movies that he can watch from his laptop or iPad even in a motel room while he’s traveling for work across the country!
As much as we enjoy it as adults, however, I have to say that when I came across this Facebook status from one of my friends I just had to laugh, because boy, it rang oh so true!
Our “Top 10 for You” area on netflix is now just kid shows… does this mean that are we adults now?
Yepp I’m afraid to admit that more often than not Netflix suggests that we watch Bo on the Go or Jake and the Neverland Pirates! Which is actually ok because I love that it’s set up to be so family friendly! This summer they’ve gone a step further and set up rows and lists on the Netflix Families Page (you can check it out even if you’re not a member yet!) In lists like “Ready for Preschool” and “Hero Movie for Teens” you’ll find something for everyone in your family this summer!
One thing that I love about Netflix is how affordable it is! Starting at just $7.99/month it’s cheaper than taking your family to the movies once!
We have been using Netflix a bunch this summer! From too-hot Texas days to the in-between days on vacation when we’re waiting around for our next “adventure” we’re definitely taking advantage of all Netflix has to offer! I love that in addition to the newest movies it also has classics that I knew and loved as a kid–like The Magic School Bus! It’s so fun introducing my kids to the same shows and movies I watched and loved when I was little! Also through Netflix great recommendations we’ve found a bunch of “new to us” shows that are now favorites–like Busytown Mysteries by Richard Scary.
I’ve been so happy with Netflix through the many years we’ve had it, so much so that I convinced my parents they should get it! So it comes naturally for me to suggest that if you’re still resisting the bandwagon you should hop on board and see what you’ve been missing!
