How To Make a Christmas Gift Budget Guide Spreadsheet
‘Tis the season–for spending! And while I hope that you find a bunch of awesome, splendid and fun things to purchase this year I also hope that you have and are sticking to a Christmas Gift Budget!
For the past several years now I’ve used a spreadsheet to help me keep track of all the gifts I purchase, how much I’m spending, how much I’m saving, if they’re wrapped, etc etc. I’ve found that this really helps me keep everything organized and keeps me within my holiday budget! I love to have all my Christmas shopping done by December 1st (and yes–all my shopping IS done for the year already!) But if you haven’t started it isn’t too late–and even if you have it’s still not to late to keep track.
I use Google Docs Sheets for my spreadsheet–I LOVE Google Docs Sheets because it’s free, it’s exactly like Excel, and I can share it with Bob and it updates anytime I make a change so he can always have access to the most recent copy w/o me having to continually email it to him.
Above is a shot of my actual spreadsheet from one year (with prices taken out–because hey, a lot of those people you see on there read my blog! 😉 You can see where I have a “Money Spent” and “Item Price” spots-that’s because I try to balance out supporting small businesses with getting great deals–and at the bottom I tally up how much I’ve saved! ( Check out my How To Save Money Shopping After Thanksgiving post for tips on how I save!)
See? (not my actual total from last year 😉 –just wanted to give an example of what the columns would look like filled in and the amount at the bottom)
If you’re not sure how to create a detailed spreadsheet with formulas here are a few quick tips:
To automatically add up the sum in a spreadsheet type =SUM(
and then click your mouse into the beginning cell and drag it all the way through the cell you want added. At the end you should have a formula that looks something like this =SUM(A6:F6)
Hopefully if you don’t have a way that you currently track your spending you can use this simple Budget Guide as a starting point!! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or tips for me!
