Your New Secret Weapon To Looking Cute, Feeling Comfy, and Doing Good

Legalese Disclosure Nonsense: I was sent these oh-so-comfy and cute pants and dress in exchange for helping you know how to look cute and be comfy! As always, all mermaid hair and posing outside my house so my neighbors think I’m crazy as they drive past is my own.

As a busy mom, there are two biggies when it comes to my wish list for how I look.

#1 I want it to be cute

#2 I want it to be comfy

I have a sneaking suspicion that you might also want to look cute and be comfy. When products bring #1 in along with #2 and add the extra bonus of doing good for the world, and the people in it? Well that, dear friends, is the cherry on top.

How To Look Cute And Comfy prAna clothes

Que my introduction to prAna . I instantly fell in love with their “wear it everywhere” styles and themes. These clothes are designed for athletes, people in the midst of their careers, or busy moms transitioning from yoga to an appointment. They are some of the few I’ve seen that can actually work across all these categories seamlessly.

Here’s an interesting fact you never would guess. The company uses Hemp to make these pants. I know–when I first think of Hemp “soft and comfy” is not what comes to my mind, either! Check out this fun video on Why Hemp Matters to learn more about this product. The video also shares why hemp is great to use, and how you’re doing good for the world when you purchase it. prAna’s ultimate goal is to make sustainable clothing accessible and important to everyone.

Recently I told you that my go-to piece for being cute and comfy is a great dress. So I absolutely love that prAna also offers several cocktail dress options that are right up my alley! Pretty, stylish, and yes, again, oh-so-comfy! This Cali Dress in Lavender Gemstone fits all three of these, and is sure to become my go-to piece to battle off the 110+ degree heat this Texas summer!  I can confidently wear this dress because it’s made of recycled materials! You can also purchase it knowing that you’re looking cute, being comfy, and creating a sustainable future!

I actually threw a light pretty purple jacket over this and wore it for Amber’s School Open House, it was just the right amount of dressy for the occasion!

It comes in a huge variety of colors and patterns, so be sure to check them all out!

Another thing that prAna is especially passionate about is using Organic Cotton. Check out this video to learn Why Organic Cotton Matters. I love that they work directly with the farmers who produce the crops they use!

As I get older, I also really appreciate better quality products that last, and whose companies give back. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all cut down on the quantity of things in our house?  Instead of focusing on getting more, we can purchase pieces that we truly love, that do good, and that increase our quality of living and that of those around us. That would make looking cute and being comfy the best it could possibly be!

Get your own prAna makeover towards cute and comfy when you use this special and unique discount code. The company created it *just* for you! 15% off your entire prAna order! Just use code PMOMNCF it’s good through April 14!

Protein Smoothie Freezer Packs

Protien, smoothie, freezer, pack,ad,better-for-you

After each child, I tried to give myself some grace and wait a couple months before thinking about dieting and exercising. All three times there was a part of me that hoped ALL the weight would fall off before I needed to start a serious diet and exercise program. Unfortunately, that NEVER happened! When my youngest was two months old, my weight loss stalled and I still had 40 pounds to lose! At that point, I knew it was time to jump back into a better eating and fitness plan.

My husband worked as a personal trainer in college and he taught me that a mix of cardio and weight lifting was the best way to go for long lasting results. Like a lot of women, I was intimidated by weight training and concerned that I would get bulky. The logic behind weight training for weight loss is that the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest. Basically, by adding lean muscle you are increasing your metabolism. My husband convinced me to give it a chance and trust the process. I took his advice and started a weight training program.

Over the next year I consistently worked out, made better food choices, and dropped the weight. I quickly learned that one thing you MUST do when you start a workout program is give your body adequate fuel! Your body will need more nutrients to aid in recovery after intense workouts. One of the main nutrients you will need to increase is protein.

Smoothies can be a quick, easy and tasty way to add more protein to your day. I workout in the mornings before my kids go to school and husband heads out to work. When I get home from the gym, I need to get something in me fast so I can get everyone up and running. Through my weight loss journey, I have found that a little preparation makes good food choices easier and more likely. I prepare Protein Smoothie Freezer Packs ahead of time so I can throw everything in the blender and have a post-workout smoothie ready in seconds.

If you are ready to start your new workout program and need a quick post-workout snack, follow the steps below. You can have better-for-you Protein Smoothie Freezer Packs in your freezer and you will be ready to refuel after each workout.

Gather up your ingredients and supplies. I used Oikos Triple Zero Greek Nonfat Yogurt and Jif Peanut Powder to provide a large dose of protein without added sugar. (This is not a low calorie food. We are refueling after an intense workout, so the focus is on getting protein in quickly after the workout.) This recipe also includes ground flax seed which adds a boost of fiber, omega-3, and protein. Adding a banana to the smoothie will also add fiber along with potassium and vitamin C. Cocoa is an optional ingredient that will add some chocolate flavor without additional sugar. You will also need two ice cube trays and quart sized freezer bags for the Protein Smoothie Freezer Packs. I suggest using ice cube trays that are silicone or have silicone bottoms like the one pictured. It can be tricky to get the yogurt cubes out of a traditional ice cube tray!

protein, freezer, smoothie, packs, ad, combine

Add the dry ingredients to the yogurt. This recipe is going to make enough yogurt mixture to fill two ice cube trays. Two trays of yogurt will make six Protein Smoothie Freezer Packs. That is enough to get you through the week with an extra if you decide to workout on the weekend. Always take at least one rest day per week, your body needs time to recover!

Mix the Jif Peanut Powder, ground flax seed and cocoa powder (optional) with the Oikos Greek Yogurt until combined. It will have a mousse-like texture.

Divide the yogurt mixture equally among two ice cube trays and then freeze. Slice six bananas, lay them flat, and freeze in freezer bags. Make sure you get as much air out of the bags as possible to keep the bananas from turning brown. Once everything is frozen, assemble the freezer packs. Each pack should contain four yogurt cubes and one banana. On serving day, all you have to do is pour the freezer pack and 1/2 a cup of milk or almond milk in the blender and blend! It is so simple to whip up one of these smoothies, even on a busy morning. Since these are single serving packs, you may not want to get your BIG blender dirty. If you’re like me, you are rushing around in the mornings to get everyone where they need to be on time. No time to wash extra dishes! You can check out the  Oster® Blend-N-Go® MyBlend® which is a great choice for making smoothies and the PERFECT size for a single serving smoothie.  You literally blend and then the blending cup turns into your drinking cup-just fill, blend and go! I’m always up for one less dish to wash in the morning!

I made these better-for-you, protein packed smoothies for myself to refuel after intense workouts but my son couldn’t resist trying it out. I was happy to share!

Protein Smoothie Freezer Packs

32 oz Oikos Triple Zero Greek Nonfat Yogurt (Vanilla)

6 Tablespoons Jif Peanut Powder

2 Tablespoons Ground Flax

2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder (Optional)

6 Bananas, Sliced and Frozen

3 Cups Almond Milk or Skim Milk (Serving Day)

  • Mix all ingredients together, except bananas and almond milk, and divide evenly among two ice cube trays.
  • Once frozen, divide yogurt cubes and bananas evenly among six freezer bags. Each bag will contain four yogurt cubes and one banana.
  • On serving day, pour contents of one bag in blender along with 1/2 cup of almond milk or skim milk. Blend until smooth and enjoy!
  • Each smoothie contains about 18 grams of protein.

InStoreOikosInStoreJifOster My Blend, ad, protein freezer smoothie packsI found everything I needed to make the Protein Smoothie Freezer packs at my local Walmart. The Jif Peanut Powder is on the same aisle as the regular peanut butter. The Oikos is in the dairy section with the other yogurt. Do you have the Ibotta app on your smartphone? Check out this offer! You can get $1.50 cash back on the combination of Jif Peanut Powder and Oikos (Vanilla) Triple Zero Greek Yogurt OR $1.50 cash back on the combination of Jif Creamy Peanut Butter and Dannon Vanilla Yogurt!

The ice cube trays with silicon on the bottom that I mentioned previously, were at Walmart near the regular, plastic ice cube trays. I also saw ice cube trays made completely of silicon, which would work for this recipe. If you are interested in the Oster® Blend-N-Go® MyBlend® as an alternative to getting your big blender out each morning, it is also available at Walmart.  Everything you need to get started is at one store. Could it be any easier?? A little preparation today, and you will be ready to refuel your body after tomorrow’s workout!

Working…

SO much! January is a notoriously slow month for influencer marketing but things for Social Fabric went through the roof last year and 2016 is off to a fast and furious start which is amazing for me as it means lots more options to work in my favorite job! Right now I’m leading 6 campaigns which is the most I’ve ever done!

3 Things You Should Do Before Your First 5K

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser Sams Club. All opinions are mine alone. #SamsClubMag #CollectiveBias

Ever since hearing about the Color Run 5k a few years ago I have thought it would be a lot of fun–but I thought there was no way I’d be able to go 3 miles. It wasn’t after we moved to Texas and I started jogging on the treadmill that I realized that after awhile, 1 mile starts to hurt a lot less, and if you push through to 2 and 3 miles it actually gets better! Now–don’t get me wrong, it was just on the treadmill and I was still super slow. Sooo slow that one of my favorite pins says,

I Run. I’m slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter BUT I RUN!

Apparently I’m not alone, however, because that has just happened to be re-pinned over 650 times!

Operation Short Shorts Fail & My Ellie Pick Me Up Plan!

Save 20% on Ellie!

It was bound to happen sooner or later, and I’m happy that it was sooner, rather than later. Last week was a complete flop for Operation Short Shorts. Both the kids and I were half sick all week long and just through a bunch of different things I felt “off” all week so OSS went out the window.

I’m happy to report that we’re all back on track this week–and I even ran a mile at 10 minutes exactly last night–another personal best AND had lemon water with pizza instead of Pepsi last night! 🙂 So picking myself up and getting right back on the bandwagon–and hopefully next week I’ll finally be able to report some scale success for the first time since now is when I’m starting to cut into my food/sugar intake which will be the hardest, but most beneficial, part of OSS.

So the plan for this week:

Week 4 May 5-11th: 1 Pepsi every 2 Weeks (I never realized how often I do drink the sweet stuff until I tried to go without it for 40 days—which I totally failed miserably at by the way—the experience helped me to see that my “once or twice a month” was really more like “once or twice a week” and that needs to stop since I really don’t even love it all that much!)

Just Run
Legalese Disclosure Nonsense: In order to help motivate me I was sent these awesome Ellie pieces! All OSS fails, sweat, crazy blurry cool pictures and lumps are my own!

Mamavation Monday ~ Razors, Sweat, and Water

This past week has been one that was even more crazy than typical! Each day had something “extra” planned and several involved us eating lunch either out or brown bagging it.

Because of all the fuss and a few missed alarms I didn’t end up running even once :S Because of that and all the eating out my weight bumped back up to 134.4, however I think that it will be really easy to drop it again by next week so I’m not too concerned.

As far as the 40 Days of Water challenge I must say that I’ve been surprised at how it’s actually been quite a bit more tricky than I thought it would be! Thankfully there is one “cheat day” each week so I was able to use that because pizza with anything other than Pepsi is gross to me, haha! As far as the no snacking while I haven’t managed to do no snacks every night this challenge has really made me stop to think about it when I reach for something after 8, and most nights I do go without. On my “cheat night” I was surprised to find that after just a little bit of snacks I found myself putting the rest back because I wasn’t really craving it after all–a HUGE deal for me!!!

When life gets as crazy as it has been lately it’s always nice to have a few great products to rely on! Lately I’m loving my new Schick Hydro Silk® razor because it has a fun design that’s easy to grip in the shower, it has this really cool moisturizing serum so that it hydrates without using a big, clunky bar around it to do so, and the 5 blades help shave close and great like stealing your hubbies razor would! It’s perfect for the days when I am trying to find the time to squeeze a shower in!

Dry Idea Advanced Dry Fresh

The other product I’m currently loving is the new Dry Idea Advanced Dry Fresh.  As you know it’s February, and in Texas that means that one minute I’m freezing and the next I’m sweating–yuck!!! Dry Idea is roll-on deodorant and antiperspirant (but it also comes in stick) that is pulse activated–so it keeps me cool and ick free no matter if I’m bundled up or in a tank top–even when those two happen within the same day. I’ve been using it for several weeks now and I’m loving how it works!

Also Dry Idea has a great Sweepstakes going on right now! Never Let Them See You Sweat® Sweepstakes featuring Dry Idea AdvancedDry Fresh! One lucky grand prize winner will receive $500, while 10 2nd place winners will receive a $50 prize!
