Pretty, Easy Makeup Tutorial

It’s screaming towards the end of April, Easter whizzed on by, and I just can’t believe it! With the passing months, my hair has continued to change its look as well. This time having Mermaid Hair has been a lot of fun. While I loved my bright blue look from last summer, it was not only expensive it also faded out really quickly and a little awkwardly. So when I got the itch to do it again I decided to go the DIY route and to plan on my top half fading out super fast from the roots down. As a result, I also kept enough dye to freshen up my blue twice. Now I’m letting it all fade out, though, and the result right now is this fun color mash-up which I feel like is just perfect for spring!

Through the last few months I’ve also been continuing to play around with my new Younique makeup products that Kristen sent me to review, and so today I wanted to bring you one more tutorial, which turned into three!

I’m hosting a Facebook Party for Younique this Friday, April 21st but it will stay open and you can see all the posts for quite awhile, so if you’re interested in checking it out be sure to leave me a comment and we can connect and I’ll get you invited!

Pretty, Easy Makeup Tutorial – Three Looks using the same products!

I started out using the Touch Glorious Face Primer as my primer. Like I mentioned in my last makeup tutorial I love how silky smooth it feels! I’ve also noticed recently that I don’t need to use as much foundation when I use the primer.

hairpieces for men and women

The next step is to apply the Touch Mineral Liquid Foundation foundation all over. It has this very unique (or should I say YOUnique — sorry, had to insert terrible pun) dispenser. I almost always use liquid foundation but I’ve never seen one quite like this before. You’re to shake it well before using it. The texture is thin and also feels silky smooth when you put it on.

Now it’s time for the eyes! I used the  Moodstruck Addiction Shadow Palette.  For all three looks, I wanted to keep the eyes pretty but a little downplayed since last time I focused mainly on them in my Easy Purple Smokey Eye Tutorial.

Take Determined and put it all over your eyelid. Use Ecstatic lightly from middle to the edge of your eyelid. Blend middle and two other colors together using tickled. Highlight the corners of your eye lightly with smitten. Fill in eyebrows using brow liner or eye shadow.  Apply Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+ or your favorite mascara.

Look #1 Easy, Pretty Every Day

It’s that easy to achieve look #1! This pretty, downplayed makeup look is perfect for day to day life or when you want to go for a “no makeup, makeup” look that’s just a little more polished.

Now you’re about to see how adding just one more product makes a makeup look radically different. We’ll be going for a bold lip look now. The first step is to make sure your lips are smooth. It’s easy to exfoliate away any chapped skin using a rough face cloth or an old toothbrush or a lip scrub. I always like to re-moisturize with a lip balm at this point since my lips love to be dry. Now you’re ready for the next makeup product – Splash Liquid Lipstick there are a ton of fun, bold colors to try out but for this look I used Sensual.

So the thing to know about this is that a little goes a LOOOOONG way. I found it worked best if I dabbed a bit on as shown here, and then used my fingers/a clean applicator to blend that amount out. When you’re done you’re left with this!

Look #2 Beautiful Bold Lip Night Out Look

Ta Da! Just like that, you go from daytime subdued to bold night beauty. This is the perfect tutorial for when you are going from work or taking care of the kids to a date night or a special event.

Bold lips are so much fun, and you shouldn’t be afraid to try them out! If you would never feel comfortable flaunting a deep berry lip, though, don’t feel bad! Bold looks aren’t for everyone, and that’s fine! Most of all makeup should be about making YOU feel beautiful, not about embracing the trends. If you want a little fun and flirty, but not too much, my last look is the perfect middle ground between looks #1 & #2.

Look #3 Subdued Bold Lip

This look is perfect for those who want to take their look up a notch, but are not ready to commit to a deep, bold berry lip. For this look follow all the tutorial up to the final step. You’ll still use Splash Liquid Lipstick in Sensual, however, use just a tiny dot on your bottom lip and spread it all around so it creates a pretty berry color without being bold or dark at all. Next layer on Moodstruck Minerals Stiff Upper Lip Lip Stain in Sappy. The layering creates this really pretty lip that still creates attention but isn’t so bold.

So there you are! 3 totally different looks with the same products and just a few small changes! Which is your favorite look? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Don’t forget to connect with me not to miss out on my Younique makeup party happening this week!

Two 5 Minute Make Up Looks for Under $30 #BeautyInspiration #shop

If you’re a frequent reader (if you’re not already I hope you’ll become one!) you know that I am a SUPER busy gal! That means that while I love to look and feel my best I don’t have very much time each day to fit it in. The good new is that putting on a cute outfit takes the exact same amount of time as a frumpy one does, and fun makeup looks don’t have to take all morning or be boring! In fact, bold, fun looks are often much quicker and easier than achieving a “no makeup-makeup” look is, because you just need a few key items that attract all the attention and you downplay the rest! Don’t believe the looks above took me 5 minutes from start to finish? I thought you might say that–so behold the proof! I timed doing my “Bold Lip” make up look on a regular morning and it took me just 4 minutes and 50 seconds–a whopping 10 seconds to spare to add one additional tweak if needed.

Hot Holiday Look – 40s Silver Screen Siren Beauty Tutorial

lace front wigs

It’s no secret that I looooove makeup! So when I was approached by Conde Nast to see if I’d like to try out a whole bunch of Mary Kay Makeup in exchange for re-creating a hot holiday look with my own twist, well let’s just say I was dancing around the Christmas tree full of joy and glee! (no, I’m not exaggerating, just ask my Mom-in-Law!!) I’ve used and loved Mary Kay over the years, and I remember my mom always using their foundation the entire time I was growing up.

The look I was selected to recreate was the Silver Screen Siren–the classic beauties from the 40s era! I was sooo excited because this is one of my favorite eras, so I was tickled to get to re-create it! I knew it would be the perfect look for going to the Nutcracker with Amber and Diane. There is an awesome production of it here in Tyler with accompaniment of a live Orchestra & the main dancers are flown in from the New York Ballet Company. Although I went to The Nutcracker nearly every year growing up (and was in it once!) this year was the very first time either of them had been, so we all got “dressed to the nines” to celebrate!

How To Do Makeup – 5 Easy Tips

How To Do Makeup - 5 Easy Tips

I adore makeup–but I know not all moms feel the same–in fact some feel a bit intimidated by it! Because of this I wanted to offer 5 of my best tips for How To Do Makeup so that it’s easy and fun!

1. Buy Multi-Tasking Products. We’re busy people and if you’re just dipping your toe into the world of makeup trying to set up an entire skincare and beauty regime is daunting! I recommend starting with products like the Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream from Loreal. With one lightweight product you can have coverage, correction, and a priming base. I’d been hearing all sorts of buzz in my beauty circles about bb cream vs foundation but this was the first time I’d tried it for myself–I’m definitely sold!

Still a little confused? Let me break it down for you….

Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream from Loreal
Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream from LorealMagic Skin Beautifier BB Cream from Loreal

Cool right?? This was perfect for me most of the month when my skin is blemish free…for my occasional (annoying) break outs I do go back to a lightweight traditional foundation–but this so much easier and gives that beautiful “fresh faced” look! Other great time saving makeup products are creamy lipstick that includes moisturizer, and mineral eye shadow since you can apply it really lightly, heavily, or layered with each other for completely different looks.

2. Focus on Your Eyes or Your Lips Time saving and just a must because red lips and ultra dark eyes only look good when super models are ON the runway (and you’ll probably notice most of the time they don’t even violate this rule) this is good news for you though! On mornings when you’re going nuts just do bb cream, mascara, and red lips and voila! A gorgeous 5 minute face!

3. Always highlight your inner eye Buy a great sparkily white eye shadow and use it in the inner corners of your eyes even if you never wear eye shadow–it will brighten up your whole face and make your eyes appear bigger

4. Go with the 3 basic essentials for a gorgeous “no make up no fuss” look — BB Cream, Concealer, and a good quality mascara

5.  Youtube Tutorials!! When you’ve gotten down the basics and are ready to be a little more brave go onto Youtube and search for any and every makeup look that you’d like to learn how to achieve. This one has become my personal favorite and I use more or less steps depending on how dressy I want to get–I’ve also learned to swap out different eyeshadow colors to achieve totally different looks using just this one tutorial!

Make Up for New Years Eve ~ Julep Mascara

Christmas is over but the celebrating certainly isn’t and that means that great make up is just as important as ever! Although I gave you several secret beauty tips before Christmas I wanted to add in just a few more so that you will be looking your best to bring in the New Year!

Do you go out and party to ring in the New Year or do you cuddle up and have a cozy evening at home? As I mentioned yesterday we always just have a fun evening at the house to ring in the New Year, but as you also know that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t get dressed up! What better way to start a New Year than by looking your best-even if it is just to clink a plastic glass of Pepsi with hubby?!

If you’re a long time reader you might remember that while I’m usually pretty easy going with most of my beauty regmine (other than my fussy skin) I am super duper picky about mascara–maybe because other than foundation I think it is the one makeup staple I just couldn’t live without. We’re talking, bring it to a desserted island kind of need it! Because of these things I’m always looking for the latest, greatest mascara! It needs to be full, non clumping, non flaking, not waterproof (I don’t like using heavy duty makeup remover daily) but long lasting. I know–I’m a hard taskmistress when it comes to mascara! Since I’m a Julep VIP Blogger (yey!) I recently was given the chance to try out 2 of their mascaras– Julep Boho Glam Lengthening Mascara & Julep American Beauty Lengthening Mascara.

When I first pulled the wand out I was a little weirded out–why did it look like there were a bunch of eyelashes in my mascara??!! Looking more closely at the bottle I saw that it included micro-fiber applicator with lash lengthening ingredients–bascially you swipe it on and it makes your lashes lusher and fuller-kinda like fake lashes without all the fuss and bother–cool right?!

I’ve been using these both for a few weeks now and I really like them! As you can see they do make a big difference in making my lashes long, pretty, and “pop”! I like that it really doesn’t look “overdone” though. I like to have fun with makeup but I also want to avoid the “globbed it on by the buckets” look!

At $24 it is about the mid-range between box store mascara and the super fancy makeup counter kinds. Having tried a variety of both high dollar and super deal mascara I do think it’s worth the little bit of extra $$!

Try them out for yourself for a discount!!! Use Julep Discount Code: VIP20 to receive 20% off on purchases of $20 or more at Julep.com

These macaras look especially gorgeous when you’re trying to pull off the red lip look because it makes your eyes dramatic without having to use much eyeshadow. Although the mascaras are different I’ve found that they apply and feel very similiar, but my favorite is the Julep American Beauty Lengthening Mascara possibly because it came in black-which I like the best.

What is your makeup must have item that you just couldn’t live without? Is it mascara or something else? Let me know in the comments!
