Three Fun Ways to Be Healthy

3 Fun Ways to Be Healthy
Legalese Disclosure Nonsense: Becoming healthy and “short shorts” worthy is hard work! That’s why I love it when awesome companies offer to let me “test run” their products to see if they’d fit in with my {trying to be} slim and trim lifestyle. All deep breaths, nighttime snacks, healthy claims, and relishing candy-like vitamins are my own.

As I near the end of Operation Short Shorts pretty much the only thing that I’ve accomplished is realizing how hard making these changes are going to be for me! However this whole process has been very good for me because it’s helped me to become so much more aware of exactly what I am doing, and what I’m not doing–and I think that is really the first step towards real and lasting changes for the better! (psst there’s a giveaway so keep scrolling down!)

OSS Week 2 & Kushyfoot Feet!

Operation Short Shorts continues plus super fun, cute Kushyfoot Feet pictures!
As a reminder:
last week was Week 2 April 21-27th: Write Down Sweets Eaten Daily (same mentality as before-I’m not going to be trying to cut back yet, but this will make me more aware of how many I’m consuming each day)
Week 2 went well, though not quite as well as Week 1. I did record but the whole week was a little off for one reason or another. I did record and payed more attention to what I was eating so that helped, and I continued with more fruits and veggies–yey and yum!
The scale: Since I’ve actually been eating more food lately I’m hanging out right around the same, expecting the number to start dipping after…….
This week:
Week 3 April 28-May 4th: Workout 3 times (these days it’s super hard for me to squeeze in even 2 workout a week, but as my friend reminded me, you do what you do not because it’s easy but because you’re determined!)
Fun stuff since how you look not only has to do with how you exercise, but how you dress—>

OSS Week 2 & A Brand New Blog Look!

smell the Azalea's
Here is me stopping to smell the Azalea’s!

So a couple of exciting things today! First off over the weekend I took a *huge* leap and moved this lovely blog from my beloved Blogger Platform to WordPress–this hopefully means a prettier, more professional, more user friendly experience for all of you! Please let me know what you think of my new look!

The second for today is my update on how Operation Short Shorts is going! This past week was Week 1 April 14-20th: Write Down Fruits and Veggies Eaten Daily

I did great with this, I just wrote it in the notes section of my planner and I was good to go–yey! 🙂 Here is my record:

  • Monday: Lettuce, Tomato, & Avocado (on a turkey wrap); Cutie; Strawberry Fields Salad <–recipe coming soon
  • Tuesday: Strawberries; Steamed Broccoli; Salad w/ red pepper; Carrots; Tomatoes & Avacado
  • Wednesday: Strawberries; Steamed Broccoli; Carrots; Strawberry Fields Salad
  • Thursday: Strawberries; Steamed Broccoli & Cauliflower; Carrots; Strawberry Fields Salad
  • Friday: Strawberries; Carrots, Strawberry Fields Salad
  • Saturday: Strawberries, Carrots
  • Sunday: Strawberries; Steamed Broccoli & Cauliflower; Carrots; Strawberry Fields Salad

The Scale: Was aaalll over the place this week one day down to 133.8 then bouncing up to 135.6 so I really have no idea! I’m not too worried about it at this point though!

This week’s plan: Week 2 April 21-27th: Write Down Sweets Eaten Daily (same mentality as before-I’m not going to be trying to cut back yet, but this will make me more aware of how many I’m consuming each day)  I’ll still be continuing to eat more fruits and veggies as well!

Let me know what you think of my new design and tell me how your weight loss or wellness journey is going this week!

Operation 10 Weeks to Short Shorts

Here in Texas it’s about to get hot—really hot. And that means that soon my staple wardrobe of jeans and a loose, comfy t-shirt or blouse with boots isn’t really going to cut it any more. No in the 100 degree 100% humidity days of Texas a tank top and shorts are the only way to cut it. In fact we’re planning on going to a big pool & volleyball party at Bob’s uncles place in the middle of June (not to mention all the zoo trips, splash park adventures, etc that we’ll be doing/attending during the summer).

Hmmm…a volleyball and pool party. To me that says that everyone is going to be parading around in swimsuits and cover ups, and right now there’s no way I’d be comfortable parading around all day in short shorts let alone a swimming suit (even modest ones!!)
So—Operation Short Shorts has begun to get me into Texas apparel ready shape!
If you’ve been following my slim  & trim journey at all over the past 3 years you’ve picked up on the fact that I know what I need to do-I just have a hard time actually doing it. I’ve tried several different things: websites, apps, a reward jar, etc.—but none of it ever “sticks” and while my friends have gone on to get down past their goal weights I’m still stuck at “stuck”weight—only dipping below it when I fell super sick for several weeks in a row!
The party (and the thought of my flabby arms, Jiggly thighs, and love handles all on display) are great motivation though! I can look pretty hot right now because I know how to wear clothes that strategically hide my flaw areas so it’s hard to get motivated—there is no such luck in summer wear, however, so it really is time to get into gear!
I’ve decided to break it into bite-sized pieces and implement all the things I know I should be doing. I’m giving myself one little goal to focus on each week and then I’ll build upon them each week. This way I’m tackling it one baby step at a time. I’m not giving myself any “goal” weight to have as I know it’s going to be hard to lose weight—but I also know that once I get these good habits into place it will help me to get where I need to be and improve my health overall! So here is the break down of what I’m planning on doing—starting this week!

Easter, April Fools, & Gators

Happy Christmas, Merry Birthday!

Ok, happy April Fools! I hope everyone had a beautiful Easter yesterday and a fun day today! I’ll probably do a post on it this Wednesday but our Easter {week} was a very nice one this year. But considering that last Easter we were dealing with Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease and the year before I’d just lost my Grandpa, Tyler had just gotten out of the ICU, and hubby was deployed–basically anything would have been a step up!!! (why is it that I always seem to have really hard times in my life right before Easter??!! Goodness!)

Today we went to the Mineola Nature Preserve for a playdate and, no fooling, saw an Alligator in one of the ponds!!! I was so excited–it was the first time I’d seen one outside of a zoo or reptile garden type place! More pictures of that to come as well–but here’s an Instagram in the meantime!

But anywho, onto this week’s update!

The Scale: 133.9 This was one of those weeks I was all over the place-so I think from now on I’m going to start writing down my weight daily (I already weigh myself daily, just don’t usually record it) and do the average of the week since I fluctuate about 1/2 a lb between days each week even if I try to weigh in at a consistent time, anywho!

The Treadmill: Once, One Mile, 11:16 Due to Good Friday my Father-in-Law came in on Thursday late afternoon and it was all chaos after that point.

This Week: We’re back to a “normalish” week so I’m hoping to run twice and I went on about a mile walk with the kiddos today at the nature preserve to get to that alligator!

Tell me something cool that you did last week!

Mamavation, Motivation, & Makeup!

This week’s “selfy” wearing a fun Spring dress and modeling Iman’s new BB Crème

This week my slim & trim quest continued along with the norm of juggling all it is that I do and trying to adjust my schedule as new curve balls my way!

After a few weeks of trying running at night I’m definitely going to stick to it, however I’ve found that trying to run 3 nights a week just isn’t happening with how busy our schedule is and how many different people I have to try to work my schedule around right now. So for the time being I’m going to switch to 2 nights a week (Thursday and Friday) for one mile.

I’m excited to finally see my time improving, my weight going down, and I no longer DREAD running–I’m not loving it but those 3 things are huge motivation boosters!

Here’s my update for the past week:

The Scale: 134 –back down again!!! Now it’s time to keep it there and keep it going down, down, down
The Treadmill: Ran twice for 1 mile clocking in at 11:16 & 11:15 –personal bests!
This Week: Easter–oh Easter. The kids have 5 (yes FIVE) Easter Egg hunts this week–so that means that there will be a huge influx of candy! I’ve been doing really well lately with my cookie in a mug trick-instead of wasting my “sweet tooth” calories here and there and over doing it by snacking ALL night long I have one cookie in a cup and I’m left satisfied–plus knowing I can have something I love makes it easier to say no to things that I don’t (like cupcakes at a party, a pop, or candy).

In the meantime keeping myself looking and feeling pretty is always important in terms of motivation and making the most of what I have right now! If you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that my latest makeup love is BB Cream! Now that I’m hooked on it I want to try it all and see what works perfectly for me!

My latest BB Cream to try was IMAN’s new BB Crème! It’s actually made for women of color and, well…., you can probably tell that despite some hispanic roots (Grandpa was 1/2 Irish, 1/2 Spanish) I’m about as pale as they come! 🙂 Because of this even the lightest shade is just a smidge too dark for me (see the picture of me modeling it up above) However this means that it will be *perfect* this summer when the hot Texas sun gives me a tiny bit more color!

This BB Creme also contains SPF 15 so it has that kind of a texture to it as well and spreads on like a mix of foundation & sunscreen would. It also provides the coverage that I’ve come to expect from a BB Creme–slightly lighter than a light foundation. It provides evening without thick coverage-so for any problem spots don’t forget to touch up with concealer!

One very cool thing is that IMAN’s is having a bunch of awesome in-store events where you can find out more information about this new product! Be sure to check out the IMAN’s Facebook Event list  to find one near you!

Two Lucky Winners Will Receive BB Crème samples: Shades Clay Med and Earth Med, IMAN Cosmetics Luxury Lip Shimmer: Crystal, and Luxury Lip Pencil: Tan. (Total Package Value $20.00)

The Scale, The Treadmill, and This Week

The Scale: This week I weighed in at 135.2 — so, up a little but I’m not sure if that’s because I’m running again regularly or if it’s because of how I ate this week…one thing that I *still* really need to do is start a food journal so that on weeks like this I can look back and pinpoint what might be going on!

The Treadmill: This past week I ran a mile twice in the evenings like my plan was–sure enough it’s working out great and I’ve been recording my best times ever! So I’m very excited about that!

This Week: is Spring Break and that means that we should be home a lot as most of our normal things are cancelled–both of the kiddos have colds, so I’m planning on a stay-at-home-and-get-some-work-done week! Also I’m going to use it to finally jump on the potty training train for Tyler–I’ve been putting it off thanks to some savvy boy-mom friends who advised me to definitely wait till he was at least 2 1/2 and really seemed interested.

The Discovery: I just recently discovered the wonder that is a Chocolate Chip Cookie in a Mug. It could be the best, or worst, thing to ever happen to me! Ok, ok, so that’s a bit dramatic. The wonderful thing about it is that I can now have a delicious fresh from the oven cookie taste anytime I want without inhaling five of them and then 5 the next day (portion control!) It’s also helping me be able to stop and think about my night sweets–is it really worth the calories? Or would I just rather wait a day or so and make a cookie to count for both days? Also since it’s homemade it’s automatically less junky just because I’m using fresh ingredients and avoiding all that nasty processed business.

Mamavation Monday ~ Razors, Sweat, and Water

This past week has been one that was even more crazy than typical! Each day had something “extra” planned and several involved us eating lunch either out or brown bagging it.

Because of all the fuss and a few missed alarms I didn’t end up running even once :S Because of that and all the eating out my weight bumped back up to 134.4, however I think that it will be really easy to drop it again by next week so I’m not too concerned.

As far as the 40 Days of Water challenge I must say that I’ve been surprised at how it’s actually been quite a bit more tricky than I thought it would be! Thankfully there is one “cheat day” each week so I was able to use that because pizza with anything other than Pepsi is gross to me, haha! As far as the no snacking while I haven’t managed to do no snacks every night this challenge has really made me stop to think about it when I reach for something after 8, and most nights I do go without. On my “cheat night” I was surprised to find that after just a little bit of snacks I found myself putting the rest back because I wasn’t really craving it after all–a HUGE deal for me!!!

When life gets as crazy as it has been lately it’s always nice to have a few great products to rely on! Lately I’m loving my new Schick Hydro Silk® razor because it has a fun design that’s easy to grip in the shower, it has this really cool moisturizing serum so that it hydrates without using a big, clunky bar around it to do so, and the 5 blades help shave close and great like stealing your hubbies razor would! It’s perfect for the days when I am trying to find the time to squeeze a shower in!

Right now you can find high value coupons for Schick Hydro Silk® razor in the paper–or if you’d like me to send you a super special one courtesy of BzzAgent just let me know in the comments!

Dry Idea Advanced Dry Fresh

The other product I’m currently loving is the new Dry Idea Advanced Dry Fresh.  As you know it’s February, and in Texas that means that one minute I’m freezing and the next I’m sweating–yuck!!! Dry Idea is roll-on deodorant and antiperspirant (but it also comes in stick) that is pulse activated–so it keeps me cool and ick free no matter if I’m bundled up or in a tank top–even when those two happen within the same day. I’ve been using it for several weeks now and I’m loving how it works!

Also Dry Idea has a great Sweepstakes going on right now! Never Let Them See You Sweat® Sweepstakes featuring Dry Idea AdvancedDry Fresh! One lucky grand prize winner will receive $500, while 10 2nd place winners will receive a $50 prize!

Mamavation ~ 40 Days of Water

Things this week went fairly well, once again I did a awful job of keeping track of my food in a food journal, I don’t know what it is about all the different ways I’ve tried to keep track that I just can’t seem to stick with it–I’m starting to think that maybe in the mornings I will plan out my food for the day and then check off each item as I eat it to play on my love-of-all-things-check-list mentality–maybe a little unorthodox but I think it just might work! I’ll let you know how it goes!

Still feeling out my new routine I only ran twice last week but will try again this week to run 3 times-my biggest thing is that I need to start getting up at 7:30 each morning and well…..

So something to work on! Just this morning I saw the challenge that I posted first, and I’m seriously considering doing it! I already drink basically only water, coffee, and milk-but about once a week I will have Pepsi when we go out to eat. I’m think for the challenge I’d limit myself to 2 cups of coffee a day and then only drink water for the rest, it might be tough but I think it would be an awesome experience–anyone else in??!!!

My weight this week: 133.4 lbs One pound down–Woo Hoo!!!

Leave me a comment and let me know how you’re doing this week with your wellness/weighloss/healthy goals and be sure to leave me a link if you did a post this week!

Mamavation ~ Lemon Water

Lemon Water

Healthy trick I used this week: Put slices of a Meyer Lemon (a cross between a lemon and a mandarin orange-I bought a bag at Wal*Mart) in boiled water. Makes for a delish and metabolism boosting hot drink and helped curb my crazy night time sweet cravings.

So last week was one of those crazy weeks that has a bunch of “extra” things stuffed into it so that there is little time for anything else. I did run twice, but I didn’t really keep track of how I was eating. This week I’m hoping to actually begin a routine of sorts and that should help me get back on track with everything.

This morning I weighed in at 134.4 – so I’ve gained back a little of the weight that I  lost while I was sick, but I think part of that will be getting muscle again to replace what I lost in that while I was sick as well.

Goals for this week-I figure if I keep it to 2 goals a week I’ll be more likely to accomplish them!

  • Run 1 Mile 3 days
  • Start keeping food journal

How are your weightloss and wellness goals coming? What are your plans for this week?
