Paying it Forward with the “Gift of Sleep” from Pampers

I have this super awesome friend here in Texas. She was actually the very first friend I made right after moving here last year. We went to our very first Moms Inc outing and I chatted with her for a few minutes in the sandbox until Amber was attacked by fireants. I knew she was a “kindred spirit” the moment she didn’t bat an eye when I stripped my 4 year old down to her panties in the middle of nowhere as she jumped around screaming because of the bites. Instead she lept into action–helping squish the ants, recommending how to make the stinging go away, and showing sympathy.

Her name is Heather and although you might not think you’ve ever heard of her, you have seen her work many times because she’s the photographer for Arrow&Wren and the she is the one who makes the magic in the pictures & behind the camera happen in many of my fashion blog posts {that headshot up there in my header that I’ve gotten a zillion compliments on? Yepp that was Heather’s work}. Most recently she gave me a free shoot so we could really rock my charity based Fierce Fund post since we’re both complete suckers for a good cause–basically she’s just awesome like that!

In addition to being a work-from-home mom she’s also pregnant right now with baby #2! I remember all too well how totally brain-numbingly-exhausting and draining my pregnancy with Tyler was. Being constantly tired and throwing up 3 times a day my entire pregnancy (yes, all 9 months with both kids) while chasing around an active toddler and working from home was just so hard! And I also know that so many women do not have these kinds of struggles and you get the “What’s wrong with you, suck it up.” attitude or hear “Really??!! You’re *still sick*???” so often it’s very discouraging! So my heart has just gone out to Heather lately because she has an even harder time during pregnancy than I have (poor thing is over half way along and until recently had a hard time even keeping water down and was losing weight instead of gaining it!!) and while I’ve tried to give her helpful tips about what helped me (thank God for Zofran!!!) I still really wanted to do something special for her!

Christmas Gift Guide ~ Homemade Christmas Gifts

Christmas Gift Guide

When it comes to Christmas gifts sometimes the best are homemade gifts! I pulled together this adorable Pampering Gift Basket that would be a great present for anyone on your list who loves to a little Me Time (and really–who doesn’t need some of that??!!)

Homemade Christmas Gifts

Here is what you’ll need!

  • 1 Basket (here in Texas the Garage Sales are *amazing* so you can easily pick up a gorgeous basket for $1 or less)
  • 1 Loofa (around $1 at Wal*Mart)
  • 1 Wash Cloth (around $1 at Wal*Mart)
  • 2 Glass Jars w/ Locking Lids (I got mine at Freds for $1.50 each-check your local Dollar Store)
  • Ingredients for Gingerbread Sugar Scrub  (Remember I gushed about how great this is during our Spa Night In last week)
  • Ingredients for Relaxing Bubble Bath Soak (recipe below)

So basically you get a super luxe looking gift basket for under $10 – a great easy homemade Christmas gift that won’t break the bank! (it might be more if you have to purchase the bulk products for the scrubs/soak but you can use them to make multiple baskets-so it’s worth it!)

Recipe for Relaxing Bubble Bath Soak

  • Andovia Bath Salts from Cleopatra’s Choice TIP: These are great for helping with eczema too! I add some to each bath Amber takes and they’ve really been helping!
  • Village Naturals Therapy Aches & Pains Relief Foaming Bath Oil & Body Wash (got this at Wal*Mart for under $5 it has essential oils and is the first bubble bath I’ve found that I could use on Amber)
  • A Lemon (I don’t need to explain that–right?)

Mix together 2 cups Bath Salts w/ 1 cup body oil, and add Lemon zest, as much as you want for color and fragrance. It will be a little foamy at first. Wait until it settles down and then pour into jar!

Putting it all together! Roll up the washcloth into a roll (you could tie with a fun ribbon if you wanted) Place the jars and the washcloth inside of the basket. Using the loofa tie it around one of the handles to create a pretty “bow” for the basket. Ta Da!

There you are! A beautiful, totally luxurious, totally easy homemade Christmas gift!
