An Absence So Great by Jane Kirkpatrick *Review & Giveaway*

***This giveaway is now CLOSED Congrats to Shara who won***
If I had to pick just one word to sum up what this book is it would be “intriguing”. As I was reading the book I didn’t realize it was all based on a real person’s life. After I’d finished reading the book I wasn’t sure how I felt about it because it didn’t seem to have the ending I’d imagined or thought the author “should have wrote”. Once I realized that the author had written this story about her own grandmother, and that all the characters in the book were real and the events really did happen, my entire outlook changed. Because of course real life is virtually never wrapped up in the nice tidy box we like to get our stories in. I thought this look into Jessie’s life was fascinating, especially since I’m so interested in photography myself. I also really loved how the author switched back and forth from first person to third person using real photographs taken by Jessie. Although I wouldn’t really call this book “Christian” I found it extremely entertaining and interesting and would highly recommend it to anyone who would enjoy an interesting, original story about a determined young woman who lived in the early 1900s.
