***This Giveaway is now CLOSED Congrats to Lorrie who won***
When my hubby saw me reading I Dare You to Change he groaned and said, “Oh NO! You’re reading a self help book??!!” I had to laugh because when I opened the package and saw Pastor Bill’s smiling face and finger pointing at me I wondered if maybe I was about to read one. I’m not much one for fluffy, feel goody, “oh you’re such a wonderful person–Yey you” type of books.
Thankfully I Dare You to Change is not a self help book–it’s so much more! As KJ 52 says, “I’ve got Jesus–I don’t need Dr. Phil!” that’s what this book made me think of. I would describe it as Max Lucado meets John Maxwell. It follows the story of Gideon but brings it to life and makes it applicable to our life today–I think that was my very favorite aspect of the book. I loved re-hearing the story from beginning to end and realizing that once again God chose “the least” that humanity had to offer and made it His very best. I also always love realizing how flawed and messed up the people in the Bible are-as weird as that might sound. To me that assures us of it’s truth–if it were a work of fiction all the heroes and “mighty men of God” would be just that–not people who sin, defeat sin, then fall back into sin again. It shows me that there is hope for everyone of us! I also love that the plan of salvation is clearly and accurately represented in the book.
The book is also filled with great leadership ideas, quotes, and plans. It encourages you to really make the changes you need to in your life–no matter what area those changes might be in. I found it to be inspiring and challenging. Although there aren’t any huge changes I feel that I need to make in my life there are many smaller areas that need tackling–like my path to lose my baby weight. This book helped me remember that it’s the little steps daily that add up to the big ones.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone–in fact I already did at the Women’s Bible Study I go to and am planning on loaning my copy to a friend there after I talk my hubby into reading it-once I convince him it’s not a self help book 😉
