The only holiday related books that stay in our bookcase year round are those that have to do with Easter.
The way I see it the story of Easter is relevant year round–every day in fact!
This year Amber got The Donkey That No One Could Ride in her Easter basket and we have been enjoying it ever since! A story about the little donkey who was used for Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, it focuses on an often over looked but crucial part of the Easter Story.
The story is simple, yet powerful, and the pictures are absolutely amazing!
I love how it shows Jesus kind, gentle, and healing character traits. The story is super engaging for children while teaching important truths at the same time.
Through the book me and Amber had an amazing conversation about the crucifixion and resurrection. She noticed that Jesus in the book looked sad–and asked why he was. I told her that he knew that He was going to Jerusalem to die–so that made him sad. She nearly started crying and told me that it made her sad too. I was able to tell her that even though it is very sad–it was because he loved us that he died–and that we didn’t have to be sad because he wasn’t dead anymore! It was a deeper conversation than any of our other books about the Easter story had caused us to have–which I found extremely interesting and very exciting all at the same time!
This book is a new favorite and I would *highly* recommend it to everyone! Everyone else on Amazon agrees with us–it has 5 stars so far!
The author sent us this book just because he’s awesome–all opinions and pictures are my own!
