“Howard had a monkey on his back because he was lying. And lying is NOT good!” ~ Amber
You might remember that we first met Howard B. Wigglebottom when he was learning to listen. We enjoyed listening to that so much that we jumped at the chance to review Howard B. Wigglebottom And The Monkey On His Back
In this book Howard learns the consequences of telling lies–even if they seem to be for a “good reason” or one that might seem like “little white lies”.
Again this book came for a perfect time for us! I was shocked to recently catch Amber in her first lie. I mean, I shouldn’t have been-I knew it was coming-but it’s still a little stunning when it happens!! We’ve been working hard with her to teach her that the truth is ALWAYS better to tell than a lie!
I was so proud of her the other day because she came out of her room where she’d been playing, tears in her eyes, and told me, “Mommy I’m so, so sorry. I broke my doll crib.”
Sure enough she had (it was actually fixable, thankfully!! But she didn’t know that at the time) I was so happy, not about the cradle, but about the fact that she owned up to her mistake and came to me about it without trying to hide it or lie about it. It seems Howard, along with our other lessons, have made a great and positive impact!
