If you have ever had a child between the ages of 2 and 6 in your life you probably realize that dress is up vitally important–especially for girls! Dressing up as a princess, especially, seems vital at this age. Now–before you go and start waving those equality banners high let me first mention that while our dress up trunk is filled to the hilt with puffy, glittery, swirly tutus and floor length gowns it’s also full of Fireman outfits, Doctor kits, and Astronaut gear!
There really is something about being a princess that is just engrained into our DNA as girls–and I think me and Amber got a little extra dose of it! Even when I got married my criteria was that I wanted to look “Like a Disney Princess” Tiara, big poofy ball gown, sparkles and all!
Belle has always been my favorite Disney princess–a smart, beautiful, book worm, brunette who ends up in an enchanted castle with a HUGE library??? Yes please! One of my favorite books of all time is Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast (though I have to admit that when Tangled came out it did give Beauty and the Beast a bit of a run for it’s money–now they’re tied for my favorites!)
Since Amber first got into dress up I’ve discovered that the very best place to get dress up clothes is to buy them from costume shops like Costume Super Center. The quality tends to be so much better than those you’d get from a play dress up trunk and they often have a much bigger variety of sizes–which is important when your daughter has always been in the 110th percentile her whole life–so at just turned 5 she’s the size of most almost 7 year olds!Mommy Tip: Buy the costume one size too big–you can pin it in the back (like I’ve done here) and get an entire years wear out of it!
Now that Amber is such a big girl of five I decided to let her choose for herself what costume she’d like to receive! I narrowed it down to four costumes that were my favorite and let her decide between them. I went for the higher end, great quality costumes that included gorgeous details like the rosettes and gloves that the Belle costume she decided on included. I love the look and feel that they give, and you can tell that this will put up with a lot of dancing, swirling, and movie watching!
That makes all the princesses in our house happy!
