You should know by now, I am a total sucker for a good cause! But just in case wearing blue wigs, passing around purple purses, digging in and doing good, or sharing about Dependable Leaders wasn’t quite enough to convince you, here is further proof!

You might remember a few years ago when we cut Amber’s hair for the second time we donated it to Locks of Love. It was something that I’d always wanted to do myself but anytime my hair was long enough to donate, it was also bleached blonde, which Locks of Love can’t use.

Recently a friend was posting about Locks of Love on Facebook and it struck me that finally I had *long* hair that wasn’t bleached! She was asking for friends to grow their hair out and donate in a few years. I knew that if I waited 3 years I’d be rivalling Rapunzel, so I decided to jump on in and do it right away!

I decided to add a little extra fun into the mix, and posted on my personal and Fan Page on Facebook and asked my friends and followers to pick out a haircut that would look cute on me! I loved all the different styles I got sent–and picked one that was adorable but that I would have never chosen myself!

So, the final result?!

Authors Chop Off Hair for Locks of Love!

12 inches for Locks of Love! I’m in love with my new haircut!

On the first day of school I went to a “First Day of School Moms Boo Hoo” playdate at my friend’s house. There I met Jennette–and we instantly hit it off! It only made sense when I found out that she’s actually an author whose first full length book, Secrets Kept (The Hidden Dagger), just got published!

She’s now my “school pick up line” friend and we chat for a bit nearly every day as we wait for the doors to open!

Right around the same time I was talking about Locks of Love she mentioned that she was going to do the same thing! I thought this was super cool so I wanted to share her pictures and story with you as well! She told me that she never thought that her hair would be long enough to donate, but she’s so happy that she was able to!

Writing as J. L. Mbewe, Jennette is an author, artist, mother, wife, but not always in that order. Born and raised in Minnesota, she now braves the heat of Texas, but pines for the Northern Lights and the lakes of home every autumn. She loves trying to capture the abstract and make it concrete. She has two short stories published in The Clockwork Dragon anthology, and is busily creating worlds inhabited by all sorts of fantasy creatures and characters, all questing about and discovering true love amid lots of peril. Her debut novel Secrets Kept and her short stories set in the world of Nälu: Desert Rose, Dragon Thief, and Indestructible are now available. She is currently living her second childhood with a wonderful husband and two precious children who don’t seem to mind her eclectic collections of rocks, shells, and books, among other things.
