1. Clear the Clutter
As you’re digging into boxes of Christmas Decorations and putting away your normal knick-knacks be intentional as you do the swap–will you be excited to be digging these things out again in a month, or are they items that you’re holding onto for who-knows-what-not-good-reason? Give yourself one less thing to do for the New Year by dropping them into your donate box now! Same goes for Christmas items–do you love it? is it bringing a smile to your face as you unpack it? If not drop it in as well–some other family will be thrilled to bring a new-to-them Christmas item into their home this year! Don’t allow yourself to keep things out of guilt–the person bought it for you as a gift to be a blessing, not a burden. Give yourself permission to separate the gift from the giver and know it will be a bigger blessing to someone else!
As mentioned above you’ll already be moving furniture around for the tree and clearing shelves for decorations–use this time to do some fast & furious “Christmas” Cleaning–dust everything, steam clean or vacuum carpets, wipe down the windows! With a glass of hot cocoa, Christmas music playing, and the help of kiddos (remember they’re trying to make the “nice” list!) it will go quickly and easily and you’ll be thanking yourself when your party date arrives and the bulk of your work is already done!
3. Go All-Purpose
Though I love myself a good all purpose cleaner year round this time of year I’m really looking for the most “bang for my buck” possible! That’s why I rely on my heavy hitters this time of year. Not to mention the extra virus (AKA Nasty Bugs) are floating around it’s more important than every to keep things clean!
I’m in love with BabyGanics The Grime Fighter All Purpose Cleaner. It works great on any type of counter surface–kitchen or bathroom! The light citrusy scent brings a smile to my face too and fits in perfectly for this time of year. The best part? It’s all natural and it really works!
4. Squeeze it In
If you’ve read my cleaning posts before you know I’m a “do it fast in 5 minutes” kind of gal and I get creative with it. This time of year perfect the art of squeezing cleaning in. Talk on the phone with a loved one while you fold laundry. Do squats while you wipe down the counter in the bathroom, while the kids are in the tub. Dust the front room while you’re catching up on
The Walking Dead (oh wait-I might be the only one crazy with wide enough tastes in this group to watch Zombies?) eerrr Once Upon a Time (another show that I need to catch up on…)
5. Do the 10 Minute Dash
Before the kids bedtime each night set the timer for 10 minute and you all pick up as quick as you can. They can tackle their toys and rooms, you tackle the dishes mess and make lunches and prep breakfast for the next day! It’s amazing how much you can fit in when you try to scoot!
