I loooooove the Olympics! Every 2 years I glue myself to the TV during those weeks–laughing, crying, and celebrating. The past few weeks were no different. While prime-time also falls during bedtime (for the kiddos–well, and let’s be honest, me too) I didn’t miss a single moment of the games thanks to our handy-dandy DVR. I loved getting the chance to watch the Olympics on my schedule this year and even got the kids in on the action–here’s a post from my personal Facebook post during them:
Amber is certainly my child because we’re watching the Winter Olympics and she’s screaming at the speed skaters for the Americans to win-hahaha!
Usually I saved the Olympics for during my workout routine–as you can see here! Nothing is more motivating for me to get up and move my lazy rear than to watch those Olympic athletes tearing it up and knowing that if they do it for hours and HOURS each day, 7 days a week, surely I can run 2 measly miles in the comfort of my own home for goodness sakes! One of my favorites to watch was Ted Ligety–I was so excited for him when he won his gold medal!
What inspired me even more, however, were the highlights they showed of the upcoming Paralympics. Those always made me say a quick little prayer of thanks and then use the 2 feet I have to run a little harder, a little faster!
So what inspires me MOST?! When I see these amazing, talented, and determined athletes using their share of the spotlight to promote amazing programs that give back. When I read about the Citi Every Step of the Way® program I was immediately excited and intrigued and then when I read how U.S. Paralympic athlete Rico Roman is teaming up with the Operation Comfort to give wounded veterans the opportunity to participate in sled hockey by giving them the financial support and equipment that they need — I was hooked!
It should come as NO surprise to anyone that when it comes to anything related to supporting our military and it’s members I’m all for it! (umm..I’m married to a veteran and have a long, large family history of military members, remember?!) When it comes to supporting our wounded veterans, however, well I basically turn into a big ol’ pile of mush! That’s why I love, love, love this video — watch it, it’s only 1 minute!
What’s even cooler is that Citi donated $500,000 to the U.S. Olympic Committee to help these programs
Every Step of the Way® — and you can help decide where it goes! Check out this video for more details–also short and sweet!
So what are you waiting for?! Go to Every Step of the Way to vote for your favorite program now, you already know who has my vote!
Oh! And just to make all this awesomeness even MORE awesomeness, here is an amazing little giveaway!

I think the story of Picabo Street inspires me the most because I can relate to her story. She over came so much from being kicked of the team and she kept on fighting until she hurt her knee. She never gave up and it’s so important to try to avoid these injuries as these are not quick to heal and come back from.
