Legalese Nonsense: This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser Stayfree feminine care that provides pads, pantiliners, and tampons. All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias #FreetoMove
((So yeah–for the 2 guy readers who are out there and randomly stumbled across this blog post–this is your cue to run away plugging your ears screaming. At least that’s how my husband responds to the words “feminine care” or if any of the other above “period” words come up. I’m just saying–you’ve been warned.))
“Breathe deep. Just breathe deeply. You can do this. You can do ALL things through Christ…remember??? Focus, focus. Ok. Here goes.”
Oh hey ladies! Sorry–you caught me giving myself a quick little pep talk. You all know I’m busy. I mean….. B U S Y.
I know, I know. You too. But really—wanna compare busy really quick? Just for fun? Here goes.
We’re talking taking care of the in-laws home and going to see them for vacations and randomly dropping everything to hang out with them when they pop home….
oh and let’s not forget the 2 kids home full time, full time college student husband who is also home for every thing but a few hours each day…
aannnnnd the “fur babies” — 3 dogs to be exact!
But really–they’re all so fun and gorgeous how could they not be the main focus of my busy? This is the BEST busy part of my life.
Then you have the 4 part time work from home jobs which equal a little over 1 full time job…
Yeah…..that? That calendar right there? That’s for ONE of my jobs (this blog, to be exact) I have one of these for each job I have. and they’re all at least that full. June was actually a SLOW month for my blog. O.o
Add in the playdates, the summer co-op that we’re doing once a week, the volunteering at Building Blocks I’m doing once a week, the cleaning, the cooking, the laundry, church, oh girl. I could go on and on…..but none of us have all day, right?!
So. How to do this?! I’ve talked about before how important it is to say “yes to the best”, to schedule, to prioritize.
And that’s all great! But what about when life throws you a big ol’ curve ball??? Like when someone gets sick, or more predictably……
Ladies: How To Stay on Your Game No Matter What (time of the month it is)
I have always *hated* talking about my period. Hate. It. When I was getting ready to do this post, however, I decided to do a little introspection, and I suddenly stumbled upon WHY I hate talking about my period–it’s because I hate my period!
You see–from the words of my very own dear hubby–I’m “one of the sanest women ever….except for 2 weeks every so often”
(Don’t worry–our relationship is such he can say things like that to me without me murdering him…well….yeah except for 2 weeks every so often.)
I get PMS like a crazy woman. My sane, clever, ever-ly patient personality flies out the window and I become a weepy, snarly, nutty mess.
If that’s not bad enough then during the wretched week itself I am in total agony. We’re talking headaches, body aches so bad I feel like I might throw up, chocolate cravings, ravenous hunger—it’s bad girls, it’s bad!
But honestly — Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That!!!! I just told you how busy I am–I simply can’t afford to be laid up and out 2 weeks of the month or every other month.
So lately I’ve been working smarter, not more miserably, so that I can stay on my game, no matter what time of the month it is!
My very first tip is to start tracking your period if you never have. I never did (why would I want to know that?!) but when I went to the Dr. thinking I was pregnant and had to give them the “deer in the headlights” look for when my last period was I decided I needed to start! I’m super, duper irregular, but tracking over a few years has helped me figure out what is “normal irregular” for me, and what’s not. That’s saved a bundle of money in pregnancy tests, and both hubby and my sanity/panic, alone 😉
When you start to feel weepy/angry/impatient it helps to look at the calendar and go Oooohhhh. And then go eat a bunch of chocolate no guilt. More on that later.
Here are my “secret weapons” for kicking my horrible 2 weeks butt so I can stay moving! The great thing is that all these products can all be picked up at Walmart for a super reasonable amount. In fact, right now when you buy any 3 products, for example, Stayfree Ultra Thin Regular, Stayfree Overnight and a Carefree or OB product, you will receive a $5 Walmart eGift card reward! Go here to get all the details!
The great thing about these pads are that they are thin, but stay in place. The last thing I want to worry about when I have to deal with all that other nonsense is whether or not the products I buy are going to actually do their job–am I right?!
The next must have item in my arsenal is extra strength Ibuprofen — be sure to buy generic!! Did you know that when it comes to medicine as long as the active ingredients are the same there are NO difference in the product?! Medicine has to meet regulations–so buy buying generic the only thing you’re doing is saving a bundle of money! For cramps/period pain always use Ibuprofen rather than Acetaminophen — I know people often think they’re interchangeable, but they actually help different kinds of pains and Ibuprofen is the one that will heal all your hurts during “that time of the month”.
My next weapon is one of those oatmeal/bead filled spa type wraps that you can use hot or cold. I love warming this one up in the microwave and using it on my poor aching neck! It’s filled with lavender essential oil scent too–so it’s extra soothing!
My final weapon is my Cookie in a Mug recipe. Seriously. If you’re craving those chocolate feel good drugs this will hit the spot, every. single. time. And it saves me from cooking, and then devouring, an entire batch of Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies. So win/win!
My final tip didn’t fit into the picture–but during those 2 weeks it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re getting enough rest and even though you are NOT going to feel like it keep on exercising! Those natural endorphins are the BEST cramp relief you can find!!! Just trust me on this one!
What are your best tips for staying on top of your game all month long? I’d love to hear them–leave me a comment and we’ll co-miserate and scheme together!
