Of course we’re very teeth aware lately with Amber losing hers all the time and both kids needing to be very viligant on the war against the “cavity bugs” as my dentist growing up always called them.

Did you know that more than 51 million school hours are lost each year due to dental related illness, resulting in parents losing 25 million work hours annually? Cavities and oral infections can cause severe pain and can increase a child’s risk for dental issues and poor health throughout their lives.

3 in 4 parents report that their kids sometimes or frequently forget to brush their teeth, according to a national survey just released by the Ad Council. In an effort to help parents better understand why ignoring dental health can have serious consequences, and educate families about good dental health habits, the Ad Council and The Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives created the Kids’ Healthy Mouths campaign to spread the importance of kids brushing their teeth for 2 minutes, 2 times a day. Other information and resources can be found here: In support of this campaign, I am working with Bloggin’ Mamas to share this information to the public. Bloggin’ Mamas is offering a $100 Amazon giftcard to help one lucky winner purchase items for their family to maintain good oral hygiene.

Check out one of the campaign PSA videos, which I am sure you’ll find amusing:

  1. i am definitely going to try the 2 min 2x texting challenge. Not only would it help our teeth to brush twice a day on a more regular basis, but with 4 kids I flat out can’t afford for them to have any cavities! I’m the worst at remembering the nighttime brushing though. By the time dinner is done and put away I’m too pooped to have any functioning brain cells left.

  2. The 2xs a day is hard for me. I finally moved my daughters toothbrush next to mine and I have her brush any time I do. It has helped a lot…but of course she isn’t always awake when I am, so it isn’t a perfect solution for me to remember for her to brush in the morning. Bedtime is easier – there is that whole routine then 😉

  3. I love the challenge idea. After a LONG time of forgetting we’ve finally made brushing part of our nightly bedtime routine, however since my son has started school it’s so hard to remember to do it while trying to get everyone breakfast, dressed and out the door on time!
