We hit a high of 83 today and the kids are counting down (what they hope are) hours until our pool is warm enough to splash into. They’ve already tried sitting on the edges and kicking their feet around till their teeth start chattering and I scold them out of it, there’s just something about water that little ones love!
As you might remember we were blessed to get to move into “the swimming pool house” along with my in-laws over a year ago. Last summer the kids spent hours upon hours in it every day that the weather wasn’t flashing and grumbling, and as a result, they both learned how to swim! It was an amazing time and we all can’t wait to get back to the fun, soon!
One of the best things about having a pool at your house is being THE place for everyone to come and visit during the summer. Who has ever said no to the words “Do you want to come have a private pool playdate” in the middle of the Texas summer?! Because of this, we keep our place stocked with goodies galore for both our kiddos and all our friends, most of who have much younger ones than my two. My niece just turned 1, and I have several friends with babies and toddlers, so when I started thinking about stocking back up for pool season the first item on my list to restock was Huggies® Little Swimmers®! I loved that these came with wipes and sunscreen, too! And the fact that they’re Finding Dory ones is just the icing on the cake–who else is super excited to see it when it comes out?!
My favorite place to stock up on anything baby related is Sam’s Club since they always have such great deals! They’re having a super fun contest right now, too!
From 2/1/16-6/1/16, you can snap a picture of your fun summer moments and share with the hashtag #SwimAdventureContest or upload directly via SamsClub.com/SwimAdventureContest for a chance to win one of 5 $1000 Sam’s Club Giftcards! Super awesome!
After I stocked up and picked up new toys and things I needed to organize I went to town! Here’s how I did it so you can get all prepped for pool season, too!
How To Organize All Your Little One’s Pool Stuff
- A Mess of unorganized Pool Stuff
- You already have this covered, right? Our personal favorites are water shoes for scrapey rock bottoms, foam squirters, lots and lots of fun inflatable rings, balls, and ride-ons, plenty of goggles, dive toys, puddle jumper swim vests and foam boards!
- Large, Weatherproof Outdoor Container
- My in-laws picked up this awesome one from Sam’s Club and it’s been great! They have a huge variety of Deck Boxes so you’re sure to find one to meet your needs, decor, and budget!
- Plastic Bins, Buckets, and Laundry Baskets for Organizing
- Explaining what and why of these in just a bit!
First take that unorganized mess all out! Wipes it down, and then also, sweep out and/or wipe down the inside of your deck box (if not brand new).
Next you’ll want to sort the items by size and type and put those into piles. Take anything new out of the outer packaging for easier storage. If you’d rather wait to see exactly how much you have on hand before purchasing your organizing bins, that might be a good call! We love organizing so much that I always have a good stash of buckets and bins around so I just poked and found exactly what I needed, and then purchased 2 additional items for storing.
This plastic bin I picked up fit the Huggies® Little Swimmers® and wipes perfectly! It’s great to keep a few extras inside for initial changes, but if guests will be using the bulk of your swim diapers (like ours) it’s smart to store them with all the other swim items so you don’t have that panicked “Now where did I put THOSE?!” moment. For these, you’ll want an enclosed box with a sealing lid to help keep the humidity and any splashes out just in case it gets through the deck box (in Texas you just never know).
For those little bitty items that are usually lost in the cracks pick up an additional smaller, enclosed box. This is perfect for all those rings, goggles, and diving toys. You’ll also want a sealed lid for this box so they don’t get flung out accidentally, and it’s perfect for bringing over poolside for easy play and pick up.
For the larger items I used a black plastic crate with holes to hold the bulky but smaller misc items like the foam squirters, flippers, swim shoes and swim vest. Getting a bucket with holes allows you to toss those items in wet without worrying about them staying that way–you’ll notice the bottom of the deck box has holes for this same reason! I also picked up a circular laundry basket which was perfect for holding the inflatables, all nicely folded. Here’s everything all pretty before it gets stacked up and the final few items get added in!
For the final step just add in any foam boards and extra large items tucked into the side and you are all organized. The sight of this made me so happy!! No more kids flinging things *everywhere* to find that one dive toy they want!
Happy Swimming! Do you have great pool organizing tips and tricks that I missed? Leave me a comment and let me know! Also don’t forget to enter that awesome contest–here’s the hashtag and link one more time so you can go do that now!
