My Ansel Adam-esque self portrait
On August 3rd we got to go pick up my brother Ryan from Red Cliff Bible Camp where he’d been on staff all summer. Red Cliff was a fixture in my life the entire time I was growing up and I went every year, twice a year, from the time I was old enough to the time I graduated high school.
Because my Dad had recently purchased some “big boy toys” (a flat bed and a chainsaw sharpener) we went up early and spent the day pretending to be loggers. It was wonderful being back up in *my* mountains! By the time we went to pick up Ryan it was getting dark and it was raining, so I wasn’t able to get any pictures of camp itself or the gorgeous new log expansion, we got plenty of picture goodness earlier in the day though, so here are some of those!!
Littlest Twilight Fan…..Amber recently has decided she’s too old for board books and would rather flip through “real” books instead.
She loved sitting on the four wheeler and going for rides. Here she’s giving it gas to make it roar 🙂 That’s my girl!
Have to get the dirt on juuuuuust so…..my little tomboy loves dirt and was completely filthy by the time the day was done!
We had a fun day! On a side note I never thought I’d get sucked into the whole Twilight pop culture phenomenon…but alas, I too have fallen prey to the addiction that is Twilight. I read all 4 books in the time span of 2 weeks (that’s like, what?? 5,000 pages????) and after reading them all I must admit that I am a fan…now don’t be too concerned…I’m not about to go buy a life sized poster of Edward or anything, but I must say that for something I once ridiculed for being silly I was very impressed with the whole series.
So as you know by now I recently deserted my (poor) hubby and went on a visit reminiscent of Jane Austen’s era where you showed up and stayed for a month at the least. I had a wonderful time and we got to do so many amazing and fun things!!! I love Wyoming more than anywhere else in the world and it will always and forever be where I think of as *home* even if I never get to live there again.
And of course all the Animals!!!! She adored the petting zoo and this big guy was her favorite!
Other fun stuff included being in a magic show..
Amber’s “second” boyfriend…
It was all so much fun and a great way to start off our visit!!!!!!
So my latest obbsession is blogstalking. It all started when Jaimin sent me a link to Her Cup Overfloweth and it was all downhill from there! First I just started following all the great blogs with ideas for toddlers, then it was on to the homeschooling blogs, and now my newest thing is entering all the great giveaways I’ve discovered so many blogs do. Who would have thought it??? I’ve ever seen some of them giving away really big stuff….like brand name strollers and gliders and everything! Too cool! I’ve been entering them like crazy but didn’t really expect to win anything. Well this past week I got word that I actually did win something from this blog. It was a $20 gift certificate to Piggy Paint, non toxic kid and environment-friendly finger paint. How cute is that gonna be???!!!! I can’t wait to paint Amber’s nails! Now getting her to sit still so I can…that’s gonna be a whole different story…..
Also the girl who runs the blog I won from approached me with the idea of doing a giveaway from Artistic Albums. I was thrilled! I’d played around with the idea, seems like a great way for some cheap advertisement!! And I’d like to “give back” to all the mom’s out there like me too. I didn’t know if I would be thought of as worthy of a giveaway though, haha. But apparently I am! 😀 So stay in tuned for more news on that! 🙂
I will be going MIA for a little while, well more like a long while….next Monday me and Amber are flying back to Wyoming for a whole month!! WOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I’m SO very excited! The fair is next week and I’ll get to see Phil Vassar and Emerson Drive in concert plus all the other great things that come along with the Sweetwater County Fair…..funnel cakes, gryos, and all the great displays! I also can’t wait to bring Amber out there this year and take her to the petting zoo and to see the bunnies and cows and horses! 😀 We’re also planning on going down to Lagoon (an amusement park) in SLC, camping, and all sorts of other things. I’m so sooooo sad Bob doesn’t get to come but he used up all his leave during our hop-out-of-the-CG-just-kidding-hop-back-in fiasco. But although I’m gonna miss him gobs I’m SO excited! This is the first time I’ve gone home in the summer since I got married. 😀 😀 😀 😀 So anywho….I’ll be checking my email and be on FB I’m sure but probably won’t get around to blogging myself for awhile. Hope you don’t miss me too much! 😉 I’ll give ya a great BIG update when I get back!! 🙂 One of my best friends due date is August 27th so I’m flying back here the 26th of August. Of course today her baby dropped though :S So it looks like despite my best efforts I might miss the little boys grand appearance…I told him to stay in but apparently he’s not listening! 🙂
Alrighty….enough rambling…..Till next time!
Those two phrases completely describe my brother and sister-in-laws visit this week. Dan and Allegra were down in SC visiting her family and decided to swing up and visit us for 2 days since they won’t get to see Bob for awhile since he has to stay here while I go home in a few weeks. We made the most of our short time though! Tuesday was beach and bbq day. Dan and I got nasty sunburns but everyone had a great time. We even got to see dolphins which Dan had never seen in person before so that was pretty awesome 🙂 That night the Dicksons came down for a delicious bbq feast courtesy of Chef Bob. Wednesday we headed up to Tryon Palace in New Bern. We all enjoyed the tour and the beautiful gardens and I got a few really good flower pics I’m proud of. My number one wish list item right now is a “fancy” camera….maybe someday!!! After a meal at Chick-fil-a and stopping by Books a Million we jetted back to Morehead, then went over to Historic Ft. Macon. We literally got to look around for about 10 minutes before they closed but we got a few quick cute pictures. That night we had dinner at Fins in Beaufort overlooking the water. Both nights we played poker, but the Romero’s showed up the Elliott’s with Dan winning the first night and Allegra taking it all the next….of course my excuse is I gave it away both nights or I would have won it all….or at least that’s what I’m claiming!!! 😉 😀
I’m hoping to win this giveaway so I can get one of these pictures printed on a canvas 😀
Going to see the fireworks
What a weird last part of the week it’s been!!! I don’t believe in anything other than God and His control and will over everything in life, but man, if I was a comso/horoscope kind of girl I’d definitely would have said that there was something off in the cosmos or some stars misaligned this week!!!
Thursday started off things by being weird. Amber was acting a little unusual and grouchy and took an extremely long nap, Bob had an off day at work in which they all got yelled at–those are always fun, Lara was supposed to come over for dinner but had a crazy weird day herself which ended up in her getting interrogated at the Cherry Point Gate as to why her windshield had a crack in it which caused her to miss dinner. Honestly who interrogates a 7 month along pregnant lady who has the most innocent face in the world and was just trying to go buy some diapers??!! On top of all that hulabaloo Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcet both died (as you are more than well aware of by now).
Friday I figured out the reason Amber had been acting strange was she was getting sick and by that night had a high temp. of 103. I called the nurses line (thanks to Lara for the number) and they said she didn’t have any other symptoms and as long as it didn’t get to 104 to just give her the normal cold/flu treatment at home.
All day yesterday you could tell Amber was sick, but she was still acting pretty normal during the morning. She took a long nap, and after she woke up from it she was very upset. She would cry unless I held her and she wouldn’t talk or eat or even drink much, just whimpered. I decided to re-take her temp. and it was 103.8. I thought I’d give her a bath to cool her down but when I was done it had gone up to 104. By this time she was really acting miserable so off to the emergency room we went.
After an hour of watching them repeat the same stuff about Michael Jackson’s death over and over and over again they finally got us in the back where they took Amber’s temp. again. This time it was 106.5!!!!!!!! Talk about freaking a mommy out!!!! They immediately took us back and after ruling out an ear infection they told us they’d have to run a bunch of tests. 4 hours, one iv, bag of blood, catheter, and two big doses of Tylenol and Motrin later we got sent home with the diagnosis of a viral infection. Better safe than sorry….but oh my poor baby!!!! I am absolutely freaked out by needles, especially iv/blood drawing ones…and yet it was 10 times worse to have them poking and hurting my baby than it ever was getting them in me! 🙁
Luckily Amber’s doing MUCH better today! She took a good nap, has only had a low grade fever, ate soup and drank juice, and it sound asleep in bed right now. I think we’re on the road to recovery! Hopefully next week isn’t so very weird! (Although adding to the weirdness was Billy Mays ALSO being found dead….but I’m including that in this past weekend weirdness)
