Lilies In the Moonlight by Allison Pittman *Review*

(LILIES IN MOONLIGHT ) BY Pittman, Allison K. (Author) Paperback Published on (04 , 2011)Lilies in the Moonlight was one of the most unique historical romances that I’ve read. It focuses in on Lilly Margolis who is a genuine “flapper”. In the book Allison Pittman delves into the darkness of the after math of wounds–physical and emotional. Each character in the book seems touched by some kind of deep problem, and the book walks through the healing to be found through God’s love. Although I felt that it focused a little too much on some of the more physical aspects of attraction, it did do a good job of representing real problems and every day struggles-both for back then and ones that are definitely still relevant today. The story was a unique one, as were the characters. I’d highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys a twist on historical fiction romances! It was a fun and easy read, and definitely kept my attention-I finished it in just 3 days!

Then Sings My Soul Special Edition By Robert Morgan *Review*

Then Sings My Soul Special EditionI grew up in a very conservative church where we only sang hymns. I’ve always found that knowing the stories behind these songs made it much more interesting to sing them and gave me a depth, understanding, and appreciation for them. I’ve heard hymn stories used for different devotions and programs from time to time. This book is a great compilation of all of my home churches favorite songs. It definitely isn’t the kind of book you can sit down and read it just a few sittings, it took me several months to get through, reading it here and there. It would be great to have for referencing or to use in devotions or any classes at church. One of the things I found extremely interesting is the varying backgrounds and churches that many of our hymns come from. I grew up in a Baptist church and so few of the songs we sing were actually written by Baptists. I just found that rather interesting and eye opening. I love the look and feel of the special edition-it has rugged edges and thick paper, gives it such a great feel!! Call me old fashioned but that’s why I will always love a “real” book compared to one on a reader! This book makes an interesting and useful addition to any Christian’s library and I’d highly recommend it!

God’s Shelter for Your Storm by Sheila Walsh *Review & Giveaway*

God's Shelter for Your Storm

We all have storms that we go through, it’s unavoidable in this life. It seems that many times when we reach a stormy period in our life it does just  that, not a few bad rain drops here and there, but unrelentless pouring drenching rain of trouble, heartache, and distress come crashing down on us for weeks or months. The past several months have been extremely stormy for me and my little family. If you’re a constant follower of my blog you know that I’ve dealt with my son being placed in ICU, 2 cross country temporary relocations, the death of my very dear Grandpa, and the separation from my husband as he is deployed and I get to play “single mom” to my two babies. All of this has left me with a heavy burden that feels like it’s pressing down on my chest. Up until this year I had never even know what people meant when they said they felt depressed, I’d never experienced that emotion. I’m such a positive, bubbly person that even in the hard times I’d never gone beyond sad. I fully understand now as everything hits me and makes me feel so helpless at times. Sheila’s book God’s Shelter for Your Stormwas a great read for me right now. Though I’ve heard all about the promises of God before, and even read books on them recently, it’s still always just so good to go back through and really focus in on them and claim them. One section I really loved was this one “Suffering and comfort walk hand in hand, in that belong to the God who both suffers with us and brings comfort, care, and understand to us.” I also loved how she took familiar stories in the Bible-like the woman who touched Jesus helm and was healed, and brings interesting historical information and insight into the stories that bring the characters to life and make their troubles real. The pictures in the book are beautiful as well. I really enjoyed this book and several parts were a blessing to me, I’d highly recommend it for you or anyone in your life you know that is going through their own storm right now!

The Night Night Book *Review*

The Night Night Book is an adorable bed time story. With unqiue pictures and cute phrases like “Bubble clean. Teeth are brushed. Milk in tummy. House is hushed.” it makes for a whimsical and cute recap of the day and the things you do to prepare for bedtime. My 3 year old calls it the “comfy cozy” book and as you can see from the picture Tyler loves it and loves to flip through and look at the picture. They have both enjoyed it many times since we received it! A sweet and quick bedtime story this is the perfect addition to get for your home library! At $7.95 it’s extremely reasonably priced for a board book as well! You can find it here to purchase!

A Shadowed Mind by Julie Cave *Review & Giveaway*

The Shadowed Mind (A Dinah Harris Mystery)***This giveaway is now CLOSED congrats to bison61 who won***

If you remember I was super impressed with the first book in the Dinah Harris series, Deadly Disclosures. I was looking forward to reading  The Shadowed Mind. I was definitely not dissapointed! I love how Julie delves into the darker side of humanity that many Christian novels tend to shy away from. Her writing is griping and keeps you on the edge of your seat. In this books she keeps changing between three perspectives, which I found intriguing, and unlike some authors who flip perspectives it was easy to follow along while keeping you wondering how it will all tie together. This books deals with those who believe that people who are “unfit” should not be allowed to live, and shows the great contrast between that belief and God’s mercy for everyone. I love the series so much I bought both books for my mom in law for Mother’s Day. She loved them as much as I do! I cannot wait to being reading Pieces of light and I would highly recommend the entire series to any one who loves Christian fiction or suspense novels!

Beside Still Water ~ Tricia Goyer *Review & Giveaway*

Beside Still Waters: A Big Sky Novel
I’ve always been intrigued by novels about the Amish. Their simple lifestyle and beliefs have always intrigued me. I really enjoyed reading Beside Still Waters. One of the things I really loved about it was how it explored how Christian’s “in the world” might appear through the eyes of the Amish. The storyline was really intriguing and unique as were the characters. You really feel like you get to know Marianna and can feel her and the other characters inner struggles. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and the ending left me wanting more, I definitely want to read the rest of the books in the series when they’re released! I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian  fiction, especially if you like Amish novels and are looking for a unqiue twist on them.
If you’d like to read the book you can purchase Beside Still Waters Here
Tricia is giving away 10 copies of the book and some super cute antique Amish salt & pepper shakers. You can find the giveaway on Tricia Goyer’s Blog Here

Always True by James MacDonald *Review & Giveaway*

Always True: God's 5 Promises for When Life is Hard
***This giveaway is now CLOSED congrats to kendra22 who won***

Often for Christians, as for everyone, life is hard. The beautiful thing about being a Christian is that we do not have to face these times alone! In Always True: God’s 5 Promises for When Life is Hard James MacDonald goes over God’s precious promises to us when our life is crashing down around us. This book was very good and very deep. It’s one that you need to read slowly, a chapter at a time, and really think and meditate on the truths being discussed. This year is a crazy one for my family and proving to be more so all the time and it was a perfect time for me to read this. I especially love how he ties it all up in the end–pointing out that we can’t do any of the book unless we just allow Jesus to do it through us. The way he approached and talked about it helped me think of a new perspective that I never really had before. This was an excellent book and as a cancer survivor everything he writes resonates with truth and real belief. This is a book every Christian should read, if only to be reminded of what and who to turn to in times of trouble!

One Lucky Reader will receive a copy of Always True!
