Looks for The Holiday ~ Easy Holiday Nails

Since I’m currently helping run the #ThisisStyle campaign for SocialFabric my mind is now turned to all things fashion and beauty more than ever! I find myself looking at people in the school pick up line going, “Oh her outfit is so on trend!” Or, “Wow her makeup is complementing her skin tone and nails perfectly!” It’s too funny!

Because of this being very much “on the brain” I thought it would be lots of fun to bring you a few awesome posts about Looks for the Holiday — I’ll be covering clothes, makeup, and accessories — but today I wanted to start off with Nails! This is a looooong post but hang in there–I want to give you the *whole* story about this product, and remember–there’s a giveaway at the bottom!

Jamberry Nails VS Nailpolish
Legalese Disclosure Nonsense: If it has to do with beauty, friends, and a review-I’m bound to say yes! All glorious nail pictures, skepticism, and Jamberisms are my own!

Looks for The Holiday ~ Easy Holiday Nails

As I’ve mentioned before I’m a huge fan of pretty nails–but I hate the time and hassle they represent. So basically ever since I’ve had kids I always keep my toe nails painted (or try to–until they totally chip off..yeah….) but my finger nails are always, sadly, naked. The only time I have to do them is during the kids bath time once every couple of weeks (usually I’m working–like, yes right this second while Tyler is in the bath). I’d heard of Jamberry Nail Shields in passing but never much about them. Awhile ago a friend was posting about them on Facebook and saying how great they were and how well they’d held up against her busy mom lifestyle. I was intrigued, especially when she kept talking about how great they still were and posting pictures to prove it.

I’m not sure how an avid reader like me somehow missed the memo–but until recently I was unaware that there was actually a wide variety of Biblical Fiction to choose from! I’ve always loved Biblical fiction and really enjoyed stories like Ben Hur and The Bronze Bow, and even wrote a short biblical fiction story of my own for young authors when I was in elementary school!

Paying it Forward with the “Gift of Sleep” from Pampers

perruque femme
This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Pampers. I was provided the featured product free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine

I have this super awesome friend here in Texas. She was actually the very first friend I made right after moving here last year. We went to our very first Moms Inc outing and I chatted with her for a few minutes in the sandbox until Amber was attacked by fireants. I knew she was a “kindred spirit” the moment she didn’t bat an eye when I stripped my 4 year old down to her panties in the middle of nowhere as she jumped around screaming because of the bites. Instead she lept into action–helping squish the ants, recommending how to make the stinging go away, and showing sympathy.

Her name is Heather and although you might not think you’ve ever heard of her, you have seen her work many times because she’s the photographer for Arrow&Wren and the she is the one who makes the magic in the pictures & behind the camera happen in many of my fashion blog posts {that headshot up there in my header that I’ve gotten a zillion compliments on? Yepp that was Heather’s work}. Most recently she gave me a free shoot so we could really rock my charity based Fierce Fund post since we’re both complete suckers for a good cause–basically she’s just awesome like that!

In addition to being a work-from-home mom she’s also pregnant right now with baby #2! I remember all too well how totally brain-numbingly-exhausting and draining my pregnancy with Tyler was. Being constantly tired and throwing up 3 times a day my entire pregnancy (yes, all 9 months with both kids) while chasing around an active toddler and working from home was just so hard! And I also know that so many women do not have these kinds of struggles and you get the “What’s wrong with you, suck it up.” attitude or hear “Really??!! You’re *still sick*???” so often it’s very discouraging! So my heart has just gone out to Heather lately because she has an even harder time during pregnancy than I have (poor thing is over half way along and until recently had a hard time even keeping water down and was losing weight instead of gaining it!!) and while I’ve tried to give her helpful tips about what helped me (thank God for Zofran!!!) I still really wanted to do something special for her!

Almost a Big Boy & How Luvs Is Helping!

Luvs Diapers The Clue Is In the Blue
Legalese Nonsense: After 3 weeks of washing sheets, stuffed animals, and blankets *every* day I was ready to say yes to anything that would provide relief! Cue SheSpeaks & Luvs offering me a chance to try their Super Absorbent Diapers! All skeptical opinions, almost big boys, and adorable diapered tushies are my own.

Tyler is a big boy…..almost. At 3 years old he’s potty trained (mostly) and in a big boy bed that he stays in (4 nights out of 7).

When Amber was little almost as soon as she turned 2 I jumped on Operations Lose the Paci  & Ditch the Diapers, with the motivation of new baby arriving soon I was happy and relieved when she was both Paci-Free and Potty Trained relatively quickly & easily. Tyler…well Tyler is a whole different kettle of fish. Ever my super strong willed boy he’s also still considered “the baby” since there is no new little Elliott planned for a very long time to come. Also I’m very thankful for many of my mommy friends with older boys who highly encouraged me to not push potty training until he was after 3 years old–advice I was more than happy to listen to!

So his paci hung around for a super long time past his 2nd bday at night & naps until Bob figured out he was still using it and put and ending to all that cold turkey. (brutal but it worked, haha!!!) As far as potty training goes I halfheartedly started off when he was about 2 1/2 and he’d “get” it then decide he didn’t really care anymore, and with how busy I’ve been over the past 1/2 year and how much travelling we’ve been doing I knew that when he was ready, it would happen, so I haven’t pushed it. Once he turned 3 I cracked down and now he’s doing well but I still need/use diapers for naps & bedtimes. I’ve been having problems lately, however, since he’s such a big kid and he still naps for several hours a day and sleeps for 11-12 hours straight at night (no hating please–he’s a force to be reckoned with when he’s awake and *never* stops moving, which is why he needs so much sleep, haha!) So anyways because of all of that lately he’s been *soaking* through his diapers–even those uber expensive over night ones, boo!

Preschool Book – Bumper Wipe Clean Activities

Preschool Book Bumper Wipe Clean Activities
I can’t say no to anything that = educational + Bible! So I happily signed up to review this great wipe clean book. All adorable kiddos, squiggly lines, and extra markers are my own.

As I’ve mentioned before my favorite kind of preschool activity books are the write-on, wipe-off kind! Not only is it much easier for kids to be able to master things when they’re able to repeat them, these books, when made well, are perfect for passing along to siblings!

Bible Stories Painting Book 2

Bible Stories Painting Book 2
Legalese Nonsense: Since Amber loves to paint I will always say yes when offered a chance to check out a great painting book! All buddy artistic talent, careful evaluations and paint splotches are our own.

Bible Stories Painting Book 2

I have really been enjoying the Candle Children’s Book series–especially their workbooks like My Very First Noah’s Ark Playtime and My Very First Easter Story Sticker Book. I hadn’t gotten a chance to check out any of their painting books before now, and since painting is one of Amber’s very favorite things I was looking forward to seeing how Bible Stories Painting Book 2  held up to our testing!

This vacation has been a little bit different, as we have been spending most of our days over at my Grandma’s house. While the extra time with her has been great it’s also meant that I’ve been left scrambling to come up with things to occupy my kiddos in a small space without a lot of resources.

Firsthand by Ryan & Josh Shook

Firsthand by Ryan & Josh Shook
Legalese Disclosure Nonsense: I love to read so places like Blogging for Books are some of my favorites! They sent me a copy of Firsthand so I could read it and share my thoughts with you. All late night, earmarked pages, and ponderings of spiritual matters are my own.

Firsthand by Ryan & Josh Shook

I was blessed in that I spent virtually all my life growing up in church. Sunday morning, sunday night, church camp, youth group–you name it, I was there! And while this was a huge blessing for me, it also is super easy to fall into a rut when you’re spoon fed “the right answers” your whole life. It’s easy to see church as a chore and Christianity as one big long list of what you can do and what you can’t do. So when I heard about Ryan & Josh Shook and their book Firsthand: Ditching Secondhand Religion for a Faith of Your Own I was eager to read it because I was sure I’d be able to relate!
